Never was IV user but can't get a vein!

Got sick of spending a fortune on oxy's so I recently started using the good ol Baltimore scrambled heroin. The problem I'm having is that I can't get a vein. I'm getting so sick of sticking myself with needles only to end up with nothing! I currently only have one spot in between the forearm and bicep right in betweent the crease where I can always hit but I don't want to keep using the same spot so I can give some time to heal. How can I find veins? Is there a trick or some type of methods that I can use for my veins to pop? It seems no one can get a vein on me. Even my so called veteran associates who's been IV' ing for years.

next best is to just pop it in the muscle, not as quick but still not much of a wait for the come-up. There are guides for both IM and IV, steer clear of hitting the arteries. If you don't see your veins you might need to workout to get them to show.

But I don't really want to encourage first timers to start...

Thanks for the fast reply guys. I thought about IM but I heard more to stay away from that over IV. I usually have good noticeable veins throughout the day but for whatever reason they have been hiding from me since I decided to IV. I just don't understand this whole thing of being addicted to the needle itself because I am truly disgusted to be really honest with you guys. I just wish I could find a few good veins and go about my day. I had lots of hugs veins on the back of my hand and I hit one the other day but NEVER AGAIN! that hurt soo bad! Seem like inside of my elbow is the best spot but except for one area I can't seem to find any other spot. So far the advice I been hearing is exercise, put a warm towel over the area, hot bath, and tourniquet.

Are there any other safe spot that doesn't hurt I can try to hit?

I've used a belt, a tie, etc to tie off my arm but it still barely show any veins and the ones that does show just seem so small and thin. I'm currently using relion brand, 29g, 1/2ml, 12.7mm length. Comes 10 in a pack.
Whenever I see a vein I would stick in slowly at an angle towards the heart and would slightly pull the plunger at different times to see if I hit the vein but it never works. It just leaves a red mark every time I stick myself. There's oy one spot that I can hit 100% of the time but I would like to give that area a break.

few tips;
Get a 32 gauge syringe.. these are great for hitting small veins in your hands and such.
Take a hot shower - Your veins will come out.
Stop pulling back on the plunger repeatedly. You only need to pull it back once, and pull it back a little - half a unit/ 1unit. Then poke around and move the needle, & once you hit a vein it will start to fill up.

So I would just need to pull back once and the blood will draw out once I hit a vein? When you say hit the hand what part of hand are you talking about? I did hit the back of my hand where the vein was big and plentiful but never again. It hurt so bad.

Depends on how vascular you are. If you don't have protruding veins visible you might need a longer needle and a little bit of anatomy knowledge to know how and where to hit. I happen to not be very vascular and an IV user so I can give you some advice.

1. When you put the needle in your skin pull back the plunger right away, the empty space in the barrel is a vacuum and not air, if you hit a vein it fills with blood and it's safe to inject. (this is common sense but doesn't get mentioned nearly enough on these forums).

2. When IV'ing look at the point of the needle you're using. You should notice an 'open' end of the point. This should always be facing up when administering drugs IV. The needle it's self should be anywhere from a 30-45 degree angle to the vein (depending on where you hit) parallel to the vein, facing toward the heart.

3. On each arm there's a pretty major vein located up your arm from your thumb on the inside of your wrist. If you tie off either right above or right below your elbow it should be visible, at the very least you should be able to feel it. As soon as you locate it push the needle in at about a 30 degree angle (pull back as soon as you've broken the skin) and lightly feel around for the vein. This one likes to move so you might need to move the needle back and forth before you're inside the vein. Even if you're over weight you should be able to visibly observe the vein shying away from the needle, from that point it's just a matter of getting it to poke through. Take as shallow of an angle as possible when hitting this vein as there's a nerve that runs directly underneath it that you really don't wan't to stab with a needle.

4. Flex your bicep. Feel down the middle of it where there's a soft spot between the muscles? This is another main vein. This one is deeper than the inner wrist vein so take a deeper angle. No nerves to worry about with this one. Just find it, poke it, register, and plunge.

5. You might be able to see blue veins on the under side of your wrist, and if you're like me you tied off and tried to hit them only to have them collapse. Well here's how to hit those suckers without having to explain away a bruise there ever two weeks. Tie off above your elbow, higher than you'd tie if you were injecting into the crook of your arm. Follow the blue vein with your fingers up toward your elbow until you can no longer feel it. Insert needle at 45 degree angle at point where vein disappears, register, shoot.

That's 6 locations you probably haven't been hitting, rotate those along with the crooks in your elbow and it shouldn't be too obvious that you've been slamming.

Thanks for the detailed info burn2shine. I think the main problem is that I am such a sissy when it comes to needles but yet I'm doing it. Every time I try to poke myself my heart race and I would usually start getting really nervous. Never liked needles. I tried to hit under the wrist a few days ago and it hurt so bad I gave up. I literally can't see any veins. I dont know what is wrong with me. only place I see veins is near the crease inside of my elbow and they are very very faint. Almost look like spider veins. I only been hitting one spot in the crease of my arm towards the outside but even that spot I'm going in blind now because for whatever reason the vein is hidden but it's the only spot I hit every time .

How many times can you hit the same vein before it becomes a problem?

@Mynameisopium
I used the same vein repeatedly (with meth not heroin) for around year before I hit the brakes, that was a long time ago but I'm pretty sure there wasn't much problems like collapsed veins or more than obvious red spots. Different substances will have different effects on you and leave more/less obvious marks IME. There are 2 for sure veins that I can very easily see and hit at various places along the length of each arm. I should also mention that it may be hard to continue this further because of the difficulty holding a job.

Something very very weird just happened. I grabbed some raw from a friend of mine and injected at the only site I've been able to successfully hit. As soon as I seen the blood draw out I slowly started injecting and I got this very very cold feeling go down my forearm so I immediately pulled back. It scared the crap out of me. What did I experience? I am completely lost.

I find if I'm having a hard time finding a vein I'll go in the shower and get it really hot the steam and the heat makes your veins come out more. As for the cold sensation I get that sometimes if the waters too cold. did just feel cold or was your arm going numb if it was just a cold feeling that quickly passed I wouldn't be worried.i know not many people are open to it but plugging is almost as efficient as iv and a hell of a lot easier on your body plus you don't have to walk around hiding track marks from your friends and family

It felt like I was injecting ice! It scared the crap out of me. As soon as I started injecting I just felt this very cold rush go down my forearm. I waited a few minutes and hit the same spot again but everything was normal this time. The water wasn't cold at all. I also seriously thought about plugging since I HATE needles and these track marks are driving me nuts.

Here is a tip. ALWAYS use clean needles, and there is more benefits to clean needles than just safety. Clean needles hit easier than dull old ones. If you have trouble finding a vein use a tourniquet, remember to release the tension before pushing down on the plunger though because this will fuck ur veins. I like to just use a tourniquet to get a feel for where I need to go in. My veins are alright for injecting, I like to go on my hands and wrists a lot. The vein that runs right below my thumb is good. If it is cold or I'm dehydrated than I first prep the shot and place it down close . Then I use a tourniquet to locate the veins and release. Then the vein I want to use like for instance the one that runs up my bicep, I will make a mental note of where it is with the tourni, release , then I take a HOT washcloth and press it over the bicep for a minute or so, then I take my thumb and start to work blood into the vein by massaging it (slapping your arms like you see in movies doesn't work, you have to massage and rub the vein). Next I take an alcohol swab and sanitize the injectIon site and get the needle in my hand making sure the open side of the needle is facing up. Then when I can barely see it I go in, the instance I break the skin I pull back a little so that when I hit blood automatically enters the syringe and I don't have to gauge when I have to pull back. Once a little blood enters I pull back a little more, and steadily push down and halfway through the shot I pull back a little lore to make sure I'm still in so that I ensure I don't miss.

Supplies you should always have on you: .2um micron filter (and thus u need a lure lock syringe . I prefer 3ml lure lock), alcohol swabs, neosporin, clean needles, clean cooker, hydrogen peroxide, and a sharps kit to discard of used needles.

When I miss a shot, I immediately run to the nearest sink or bathroom, heat the water up as hot as it can go. While it is waiting i pour hydrogen peroxide onto a towel and hold it over the missed shot. Then I soak the same towel in the hot water(the hotter the better (it might be a painful but scolding hot water will help dissolve the shot quicker and kill bacteria)and do a warm compress for 5-15mins. This will help the drug dissolve into your skin so you still get some of it into your body. You won't get the rush but you will still feel it. Then I dry the missed shot injection site and put neosporin over it to prevent any abscess from forming. There is a neosporin the acts as a topical analgesic so I use that to help with the soreness and to halt any abscess or infections . You can also take some ibuprofen or aleve(naproxen sodium) to reduce swelling .

If you are goin to use needles , please take the proper precautions to promote safety. Also if you have to take an hour to do a shot then I suggest taking a break from the pins and let your veins heal upon your elbow so it will be easier to hit. If you hit one spot too many times you will develop phlebitis (inflammation of the vein. Your vein will be hard and feel like a rope), phlebitis makes the vein temporarily unusable for IV use. This will go away if you leave the vein alone.

Stay safe man,
-laC

If you hate needles, why don't you stop? Getting addicted to needles was one of the worst decisions of my life.

Skin and muscle popping are the two most infectious things anyone can do in desperation to get high if they can't find veins.

The abscess may not happen now or later, but it will. It will make you use more rationally after it happens too.

Immunosuppressed people who are such from using the drugs are even more at a danger of infectious lesions from injecting...

Do you feel for veins or just look for them? I always feel for them, they should feel spongey to the touch-I've found quite a few good veins that way, just feeling around (while tied off) til I find a good one. Some of my best veins didn't show at all, you could only feel them.
