Benzos Never waking up after benzo use?

Can somebody clarify this with me? I tried doing searches on it. Would you have to take a lot in order for you to go to sleep and never wake up or is it seen in lower doses too (like .25-2g)? Do you always run that chance with benzo usage even at a doctor's recommended dose?

Sorry no specific reason other than I was curious and never really screwed with benzos before.

People don't generally "go to sleep and never wake up", regardless of benzo dose, assuming you remain breathing and don't fall out of bed and hurt yourself. And benzodiazepines are generally considered to not depress breathing when used alone.

If you reach the dose point where benzos make you fall unconcious/asleep, after a few hours the benzo will have been metabolised and excreted somewhat, and wakefulness should gradually return. This is actually a problem with some of the benzos when used for decreasing sleep onset time - some are very effective at knocking you out cold, but 3 hours later you are wide awake and need another one.

BZD's would get a lot less use if one of their side effects was irreversible coma. Curiously, drugs related to benzos like zopiclone can actually wake people from comas, temporarily..

I think the danger comes when you mix benzos with alcohol or other sedating meds. I might be on the paranoid side, but I really hope you aren't asking this because you WANT to go to sleep and not wake up...

With benzos only it's practically impossible, but start mixing it with other cns depressants (alcohol, opiates, ..) and it gets dangerous.

benzos more hardcore chemical cousins, barbiturates are notorious for this though.

your tolerance to the barb high may increase but your body can only take so much in one ago, especially IV dosing.

barbs are much more recreational imo, but make you totally unable to function.

That's not recreational to me if I cant function. Benzos were made because barbituates have to many side effects.

I think the OP might have been thinking of Barbituates when he made this post. People died left and right from over dosing on barbs.

Benzos cause more trouble when mixed with CNS depressants like opiates or alcohol. Mixing with alcohol makes the effects more recreational and usually leads to dangerous/bizarre behavior. Mixing benzos with opiates can cause someone to fall asleep and not wake up if they take to much.

So taking Benzos on there own for sleep is safe. Besides the potential risk of becoming dependent which sucks.

Well I hope there is no nefarious intent behind this question, but crazycatman is right. It's quite difficult to fatally OD on benzos, but if you were to mix it with alcohol or opiates, then the chances increase exponentially. If you've been prescribed them and are wondering if it is safe to take, then yes, it is. If you take it at the doctor's recommended dose, there is very close to a 0% chance of fatally overdosing. The biggest danger from benzos comes not from their pharmacology, but by the things that people do under their influence and don't remember doing (driving, etc.). Taken as prescribed though, there's basically no danger.

Yes, I really hope that op was asking this in order to stay safe and to find a way of killing himself.
I agree with the last two posters that the biggest danger with benzos only is doing stupid things because you don't care about the consequences (benzos basically turn of the part of your brain that tells you 'hey bro, this isn't a good idea') and getting addicted to them.

LD50 of Benzodiazepine is pretty high and I can confirm it because I accidently ate 1g of Phenazepam 2 years ago, I knocked out and woke up at the hospital the next morning. The drug had affect my motor skill, talking, impulsion and driving for 2 months. So I stoped driving for safety.

BZD's are pretty safe substance but you dont want to overdose neither.

Going to sleep and never wake up happened alot with Barbiturate and that the main reason why they been replaced by Benzos.
It also happen when you overdose from opioids due to respiratory depression.
