Quick background- mid 30's male, recovering opiate addict, tapering off 8mg suboxone, down to 7mg. Been in recovery for 2 years. I've suffered from generalized anxiety disorder all my life, was using drugs to self medicate. Lately I feel like my anxiety is getting worse, even with all the tools I have- exercise, healthy diet, yoga, etc. So my therapist wants to try neurotherapy, I'm hesitant because of the cost and time commitment. I agreed to do the brain map in a few days. I'm curious and hopeful to see what comes from it. Anyone here done this? Advice, thoughts about it? Talk therapy things to have run its course, ready for something new.

I have never done it, but I think it would be a great idea. Biofeedback is a useful tool in many disorders, so it's worth a try. Even if you only go for a few sessions to see how it works. I am interested to see others replies too and how this worked.

I'm scheduled for Biofeedback therapy sessions starting next week I'll post how it goes, if it doesn't fry my brain anyway. Kidding, I've read up it seems safe enough.

^ I've always been really fascinated with bio-feedback. The studies I have read (mostly children) are promising.

So I got the results of the brain map. It pretty much validated what I already knew about myself. I have anxiety. I have all the markers for drug addiction. I meet some criteria for ADD. But I do not have a depressed brain- which is good. Not sure if I'll go through with neurotherapy because of time/money constraints. But I'm glad I did the brain map.

Was the brain map expensive to get done? How exactly does it work? What can it diagnose?

It cost $250, took an hour and a half. It's an EEG, they hook sensors up to different parts of your head to measure brain waves. Then they go over the data and look for abnormalities and ask you questions. It can diagnose ADD, anxiety, depression, drug addiction/alcoholism. It's relatively new technology

That's awesome. I'm going to look into that, I didn't know it was an EEG. Did a neurologist perform it?

The data resulting from this procedure is really only as good as the person interpreting it. If you don't have a true professional analyzing the data you might as well go to a psychic palm reader.
