Warning long post and I hope I do this right

My usage experience specifically with Neurontin - 2 years continuous use of prescribed dose of 400 mg each night for restless leg syndrome (rls) stopped for one year and now prescribed to me again at 400 mg nightly. I've been on it for a week now.

I also take
Ambien 10 mg nightly
Fioricet (butalbital 50mg) as needed
Sertraline 50 mg every morning

I don't know if it's necessary to include that but I wanted to include what's In my system already.

My background with drug abuse is very minimal.
8 years ago for 6 months straight I took 2 or 3 Percocet (opiate) each night then sat down with a bottle of tequila or whiskey or whatever was in the house and drink till I was completely numb. By the end of the 6 months I was doing 2 or 3 Percocet and half a fifth of the above mentioned alcohol.

4 years ago I used Percocet again for about 2 months. 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening before I got home.

That is the extent of my drug use

I am early 40's female
5'1"
175lbs
I have PTSD anxiety depression and just a general feeling of crapppiness.

So here is my report

Started around midnight
I did not take my ambien and the only thing I ate all day was a light dinner

0:00. 800 mg of Neurontin

+1:00. Started feeling just a little happy

+2:00. 400mg more (total of 1200)
Now I'm starting to feel it
I feel very happy. There's a smile on my face that won't stop. I'm giggling at the slightest thing. I feel complete relief from my depression and anxiety. I feel very relaxed and at ease but at the same time energized and motivated. I feel clear headed and no fuzzy feeling.

+3:00. All these things become slightly intensified. I'm slightly uncoordinated but still clear headed. I feel as if my blood pressure is elevated. The veins in my hands are very pronounced. I also feel very motivated and just an overall good feeling

+4:00. I read somewhere on here that someone felt extreme horniness on Neurontin. Here's my personal experience with that without being to explicit.

I had been texting a male friend the entire time of this trip. The conversation turned sexual and we began sexting. I can't say I experienced an intense increase in my horniness but as I pleasured myself it was extremely intense. I was very very sensitive down below but it did take a long time to orgasm.

+5:00 all the feelings I experienced are still present. But I'm very tired now. I've been up almost 24 hour. So I go to bed. I lay down and I'm very relaxed. I can feel my hands pulsating from the elevated blood pressure (speculation)
I pleasantly drift off to sleep.

After effects

I sleep for 5 hours and wake to my alarm. Almost all the feelings are gone but I still have a feeling of overall wellbeing. I'm also extremely tired the following 2 days

Overall the experience was very pleasant but the following couple of days Not so much.

Side note.
It scares me a bit that I enjoyed this high so much. From what I understand tolerance builds very quickly and wd's from extended abuse of this drug are very nasty.

I hope I can restrain from becoming dependant on this high to escape reality and I hope I can restrain from abusing on a regular basis.

I apologize if this post is too long and full of ramblings.

Thank you for reading.

Hello suzieq70's.

Lets skip the Fioricet and Ambien for a minute.
You took 800mg gabapentin, then 400mg two hours later. it made you feel real good. everybody's happiness manifests differently, but how you felt is spot on in my book.
The problem w/gabapentin is the more you take, less gets into your system. Read the gabapentin mega thread and it will go into much greater detail about the medication.
If you would like to get happier this is what I suggest:
I'm not sure of the size of your pill, but if its like an 800mg pill, cut that pill into thirds or even quarters, which would equal 200mg. the point is you want to make 200mg - 300mg doses. I get the 300 mg pills so this is easy for me.
I am now going to use myself as an example to keep this simple. This is my routine.

At 0:00, I'll take 300 mg. In 45 minutes to an hour, I'll take another 300 mg. In another 45 minutes to an hour, I'll do the same.
Now in a total of 2 hours 15 minutes to 3 hours, I would have taken 900mg. Now everybody's different, your mileage may vary, but I'm willing to bet that 900mg dosed over 3 hours is stronger than 1200 mgs at once. I'm scripted 300 x 3 a day. I feel that script is too lightweight personally. Now when I take the 300mg and stagger it once per hour, by the time I hit 900mg, I feel great. when I hit 1200mg this way, its almost too much.
The whole point is if you stagger a lower dosage over a few hours, you will definitely have stronger effects overall. 1200mg staggered vs 1200 mg in two doses, will be much stronger. More bang for your buck. You may be able to use less to achieve the same effects your looking for.

Part two, now as a precaution, combining CNS depressants, is dangerous. If you have a decent tolerance, and know your body well, this next part is relatively safe, but not so much for someone w/ zero to low tolerance.
You start loading with your staggered doses of gabapentin. After your done taking the gabapentin, wait an hour, then take your Ambien. The effects of the Ambien should be much stronger by a nice amount. This applies to benzodiazepines also.
You need to start lower and use caution simply due to the fact you don't know how this will effect you.
I'm peppering in some general harm reduction for you or anyone else who may read this post in the name of harm reduction.
Now on to the Fioricet. Technically this one could be a 1+1=5 drug due to the barbiturate in it. It all depends when you take it and how it effects you. Use caution and common sense. The Sertraline/Zoloft shouldn't have a major effect on the rest of these medications. Eating a light snack with the Gabapentin should aid in absorption of said medication.

Now to answer the tolerance issues. I have been using Gabapentin, Ambien, Fioricet as needed plus Clonazepam for a while now. If you respect all of your medications, especially Gabapentin, you can keep tolerance buildup to a minimum. Really if 1200mg of Gabapentin worked great, then a staggered 900mg should come close, or just stagger up to 1200mgs. I would try to hold the total to 900mg if you can. this will help you with your tolerance. I just realized your after effects lasted two days. In this case I would definitely go down to a total of 900mg.
Test this out and see how it works. Try to keep this more as a medication for therapy, versus getting high off it. If you take massive doses for a "buzz" you will mess up your tolerance and this very helpful medicine(Gabapentin), plus the others will become worthless over time.
Gabapentin withdrawal can be pretty close to benzodiazepine withdrawal, but if you taper easy, you can get off of it pretty quickly if needed as long as your not taking really high doses for a real long time.
My own personal medicine combo is kicking in so I will end here. I hope I helped.

Thankyou so much for the above two responses.

Before I attempted my first experience with over using gabapentin I read some on here about it so I would have some idea of what I was getting into.

My prescribed dose is a 400 mg every night before bed for restless leg which it works excellent for. Restless legs are not fun. Needing to move my legs every 30 seconds for hours makes sleep impossible. And if I try to resist the urge to move my legs it only makes the intensity of it worse. I do worry about my gabapentin losing its ability to relieve my symptoms but for now it still works.

After my first experience I read ALOT on here about it. I think I've read almost all of the mega thread and several other threads.

I have "over used" my gabapentin approximately 10 more times in the past month and a half and I do end up having 2 weeks at the end of the month
where I run out of my "supply"

I tried breaking my 400 mg capsules open and dividing it in half to get a 200 mg dose to help reduce the total dosage from using the "staggering method" I could not do it. I tried straight up swallowing the powder with a little water and it was a no go. I tried mixing it with applesauce and yogurt and those didn't work either. To me it tastes just like chewing up Tylenol. If anybody knows a better way to get the straight powder down I would love some advice about that so that I can try to get my total dose lower and still get the affects that I want.

What I do now-
And anybody who reads this It is what works for me and This is not meant to be a suggestion for others use it is just simply what I do.

I take 400 mg and a spoonful of peanut butter every 45 minutes until I reach a total dose of 1600 mg. I read that peanut butter is is used with a dose because the fats and oils help with absorption. I also take 3 days off in between my over using. And the "high" last (I'm guessing) about 6 hours

What it feels like for me now is hard to describe. It is a subtle "high" especially compared to other "drugs" but I feel relaxed. My mind and body is relaxed yet I feel alert. My anxiety is slightly reduced and my depression is also reduced. I'm not sure if this is what a "body high" is (anybody who reads this I use quotation marks for the words I'm not sure I'm using in the right context) but I definitely I feel it in my body too. My skin feels so good my blankets feel good my cats fur feels good. I can't stop rubbing my feet and hands because it feels good. It just feels like my tactile senses are increased. But thus part might sound contradictory but there a couple of negative side effects. One is my grip is off. Meaning I drop things more. In fact one of the Times I was "high" from gabapentin I took a casserole out of the oven and dropped it on the floor because I could not sense how tight I was gripping it. And I got a good burn on my knee from it. Which brings me to the other negative side effect. My ability to sense heat seems to be dulled. I have burned my fingers a few times while cooking because my sense to heat was "off" I speculate that this happens because gabapentin dulls certain nerve endings and tactile senses and what not.

Oh I forgot food also tastes much better. I haven't had much if an appetite for the last 2 months but when I'm "high" I enjoy eating again. Not in a glutinous way but food tastes good again.

As for ambien and fioricet. I did try to get a "high" from them. I did as much reading as a could about them and started at very low doses. I take a 10 mg ambien to help with sleep. I have nightmares and I can't fall asleep for at least six hours from my PTSD and my thoughts racing when I try to sleep. I have been taking it for about a year now and I have read several things that say it should only be prescribed for a few weeks. Not sure why. But it's been working for me for a year now. I experience a slight amnesia effect and that's it. No sleep walking or sleep eating or sleep sex or other really odd behaviors. So I tried 20 mg of ambien a couple of times and when I hit the 30 minute mark it knocked me out whether I wanted it to or not. I couldn't "fight" it. So it is worthless for me as far ad a "high" goes.

Same thing with my fioricet (50 mg of butalbital) I tried 100 mg and it was a very negative experience so the fioricet is worthless to me as a "high" too. So I save it for only when I have a severe migraine.

I try not to make sure I don't take more than just one of the above mentioned drugs on the same day

I think I have a very "addictive personality" and that I very much crave a sense if well being. One good thing about that is that if I have a negative experience with a drug it completely turns me off of it and then I will only use it for its intended purpose. Granted my "usage" experience is very limited

I find it very interesting how varied people's experiences are with gabapentin.

I hope to begin seeing a therapist in the next couple of months and I think it would be interesting and akward and maybe ill advised to talk to a therapist about increasing my prescribed dosage to help with my issues.

To me it is really interseting that for some gabapentin is a worthless drug but for those that it works for it relieves and helps a wide variety of symptoms both mental and physical. That is from my personal experience and all the stuff I've read.

I also find the scientific side of it very interesting about which "receptors" are effected and how other drugs interact with gabapentin and those "receptors" although sometimes I don't understand what I'm reading

Anways I hope my ramblings make some sort of sense and I apologize for my post being so long. I had a lot of things to say. And thankyou for taking the time to read my posts.

Im from NC in the US, and I know for a fact that gabapentin is abused, in high doses, as a recreational drug in the prison system. Im interested in the differences between a lower dose experiment compared to an "overdose." I have seen people overdose with no negative side effects.... how does this drug really effect neurochemistry at high doses?

Wow, this is a ridiculous experience for 1200mg of gabapentin. The first time swim took it swim took over two grams and only got some good effects. Swim has taken over four grams and had great feelings and trippy experiences on gabapentin but nothing like this. That being said gabapentin is a bit misunderstood in how it works and drugs do effect every swiy differently. Oh also! You can't become physically dependent on gabapentin, and the dose your at is super super low. Swim knows this from experience, he took over 3 grams of it for a week straight and had no withdrawals. However, swim has read about seizures being the result of gabapentin/drugs like gabapentin being abused, though most of them are the result of lyrica.

Maybe but I haven't abused anything for 4 years and I pretty much have a low tolerance to everything. And from what I understand gabapentin effects everyone in So many different ways
