Maybe I shouldn't be making all theses threads though. People google their assumptions, stumble across these topics and think it's indeed as black/white as it seems to be.
I'm not saying ALL people experience these problems, but I'm sure there are plenty of people out there with the same worries that I have. I actually feel as if I'm cognitive impaired since 'treatment' and am looking for answers and solutions.
When I got of risperidone, and the blunting effects faded, I started to somewhat realize in what position I am in now. Of course believing all this to be true can act as a self fulfilling prophecy. Maybe it's a bit too early to make assumptions about having actual brain damage, but as I said, I'm worried.
While I do think he's indeed a bit of a "kook" as you say it, I find it pretty disturbing to hear other peoples stories confirming things he addresses in his book(s).
He does refer to studies before making any claims it seems e.g. A study which shows that AP's such as Haldol or Zyprexa (and from what I understand the difference between risperidone and haloperidol isn't all that big) could or do cause brain shrinkage.
8%-11% reduction in brain weight, in both drug groups, this over a period of 17-28 months of treatment. This across all major brain regions (frontal, parietal, temporal, occipital, cerebellum, ...), but appeared most robust in the frontal and parietal regions. I think this would account for its so called lobotomizing effects, even after discontinuing treatment?
It's true that some people will experience negative effects after antipsychotic therapy, but whether or not I would consider them to do organic damage to the brain is up in the air, even if some individuals experience long-term effects. Some people experience long-term effects from psilocybin and I don't think i would consider that to damage your brain.
What do you mean with negative effects after antipsychotic therapy? long-term effects? Permanent effects?
Also I think psilocybin is not really comparable with any antipsychotic agent, even though I do not deny that psilocybin would or could cause long-term effects.
Then again, what is the cause of these long-term effects? When do you concider something damage or just a change?
