Neti pot, i think i love you

Was it a nasal irrigator aka nasal douche? They can be kinda forceful depending how hard you squeeze the bottle which can be uncomfortable if you aren't relaxed.

Yeah, and you gotta make sure you exhale vigorously afterwards, get all the water and junk out. You feel waterlogged for a second, but you're not done yet.. It's helpful to do some downward dog/stretching afterwards to let gravity do its thing. Blow it out!

When I had really bad allergies from pollen a week ago I tried a device that's like a Neti pot to clear out your sinuses and I didn't like how it made me feel like being waterboarded. :\ I'll just stick to using saline spray.

it shouldn't be going down your throat much at all really. maybe the occasional trickle that sneaks in there but to say it feels like being waterboarded is a huge stretch.

it goes in one nostril and directly out the other if you tilt your head correctly and don't have a more serious issue like a deviated septum or something

the best way to improve your nasal breathing is still to not put anything up there and practice some form of cardio exercise.

I remember when I used it like 6-8 months ago I had a hard time breathing out my nose and I thought it was either from drugs or my nose was damaged and it turns out I just was out of shape lol

I just got one of these! Amazing!

I get sinus infections all the time. And despite antibiotic use, they come back. Mostly because the bacteria thrives in the mucus in my sinuses. I saw an ear-nose-throat ENT doctor. He have me antibiotics and the neti pot. I can breathe again and hopefully will drive the sinus infections away for a while.

if you feel water start to go down your throat when you neti, just tilt your forehead forward more

I prefer the NeilMed sinus rinse kit because it lets you squeeze the bottle and send the water rushing through your sinuses. The neti pot relies a lot of gravity, but it's still nifty.

There is some evidence that doing sinus rinses too frequently can irritate the nasal muscosa and actually cause sinusitis, so it's important that you only do a sinus rinse to remove an actual pathogen, like infected material, allergens, etc. Once your nose starts to recover, stop rinsing.

And as others have said, distilled water is important. Making it room temperature or slightly warmer will avoid further irritation too.

Check this one out:

This one does an AMAZING job and helps me a lot.

^ Can't link to anything retail on here, I'm afraid. It counts as sourcing. You can give us the name of the product though, and then people can run their own search.

Didn't realize that Foreigner...Check out the Waterpik Sinusense. I also own the SinuPulse Elite but prefer the other one. I'm amazed at how much it helps with my allergies.

I've been told the same thing by a pharmacist but if my allergies are really bad I'll do it in the morning, at lunch time, and again before bed. Never had it do anything but help.

That's fine, but just be aware that you're not really getting to the root of what's causing the allergies, you're just relieving a symptom. That's why it keeps coming back.

I highly recommend you research medicinal mushrooms. My own immune system was hyperactive a year ago and I started to have permanent hay fever. When I tried a blend of medicinal mushroom extracts, about two weeks later the crazy allergies stop.

I can't guarantee anything but that was the most effective medicine for allergies ever, and I've been a lifetime sufferer. If you use pubmed and professional herbalist websites, you can learn a lot about mushrooms as immune modulants.

That's interesting...I've done a ton of research on allergies and I've never even heard of medicinal mushroom extracts. Sounds like it is definitely worth looking into. Thanks!

Remember to clean your neti pots. Also remember to use only clean water, and if diluting salt, make sure salt is completely dissolved. When I'm away from home, I sometimes just put a pinch of sea salt into a pool of water in my palms and inhale. Works well after a night of... nostril use.

Fasting also works really well for sinusitis. It's the first thing I do, and it works every time.
