Negative effects of DMT?

Sometimes when I smoke dmt, the smoke can be a little harsh on my lungs. That's about it though.

but it's nothing as harsh as smoking cigs or spliffs

depends. nice white crystals from a fresh extaction are quite smooth, but if you let it sit for a while and it starts to turn yellowish from exposure to air/heat or even worse, you have some partly burnt residue in your smoking device, the vapor can become extremely harsh on the lungs.

I have tripped on DMT a handful (if I counted) everyday a little over a week (As in like yeah 5 or more times daily, no real rhyme or reason. Sometimes hitting it just after I done it, or waiting hours)

I only tripped less hard, only felt less adrenaline released (CAUSE ID ALREADY RELEASED QUITE A BI)

What is "tripping less hard" when you're tripping on DMT though? :)

I still can't say I honestly felt a "comedown" just slightly less... "BRAND NEW" feeling as in psychologicallly maybe I was getting used to "it"

Are there any real and prevalent negative effects of DMT? i havent seen anything on this but I know people who trip on DMT and say its like experiencing death or something like that

Realize that you're asking this question on a discussion forum for psychedelic drug enthusiasts, so expect a skewed response.

Ayahuasca (DMT + MAOI), when used in a ritual setting, has been shown to have no detectable negative effects. However, it's important to recognize that DMT is an incredibly powerful psychoactive substance, and certainly capable of catalyzing troubling or even traumatic experiences, particularly for unprepared individuals or in poor settings. At higher doses, experiences can be chaotic and incomprehensible, and therefore difficult to integrate and existentially confusing. High dose DMT is not like experiencing death, but it is possible to lose touch with your self, and experience something very "other".

But what the fuck IS a "reptile" experience? Can someone please bother to actually DESCRIBE IN WORDS what the hell you are talking about? Jesus H. Christ!

I've had this on 5-MeO-DiPT + ketamine. I just felt like a much lower organism, working very simply focussing on direct experience and bodily desires but with a really particular reptilian feeling. That's the best I can do, sorry, but it was very distinct for me and the word suits it better than any other one I can think of.

There might be a basis for this: the limbic system comprises of the R-complex or reptilian brain among other things and it is heavily associated with raw emotions and body language. This and other parts seem to be heritage from earlier evolutionary stages, I wouldn't dream of suggesting that other parts would be shut down by certain drugs but being overruled or dominated seems possible. I even think it happens often enough that people are dominated by these (behavioral and experiential) systems without any drug being applied.

But of course they may not have anything to do with one another. However it may be, some psychedelic phenomena get a term coined for them and some of them I can relate to. Hopefully that's enough of an answer for you.

More on-topic: yeah DMT can be incredibly overwhelming, it is more neutral than negative since often enough I find being stunned positive, like being petrified by beauty. But occasionally it can really shake me up, though I never felt traumatized by it.
If the dose is high enough and the experience negative enough it is possible though. I have read accounts of 5-MeO-DMT experiences that were so profound that people got nightmares for years after that, too afraid to go to sleep. With DMT the same might happen if you dose very high and come at it recklessly and unprepared.

Unwanted life-changing effects... that is what erowid lists for a lot of psychedelics. And yeah, it's not impossible.

This seems to be a rare occurrence so I don't mean to scare anybody with this at all, just suggest that you treat it with respect and dose appropriately. Other than that try to relax and let it wash over you and it will all be okay. <3

I compare it to rollercoasters: Youll remember the awsomeness and edgyness looking back (i smile when i think back) and vaguely remember the fear. Its amazing, but it could scare the shit out of you.Our brains are prone to "resetting" where you dont remember the fear 100% and go on it again.

I think this can be said with all psychedelics: Pretty interesting, and possibly fun but you can get freaked out and feel distress.. just like when you're clinged onto the handels of a rollercoaster going "get me off this fucking thing"
