I know what the answer to this probably is, I just felt the need to double check. Please don't flame meh x.x

An friend of mine used to sharpen her needles on a leather bracelet of hers, she swore by it. Said it had to be real leather.
I'm kind of in a sharps crunch right now, I don't like to re-use but I'm trying my damndest to save my only brand new one for a friend later.
So I have a few more and they're getting in lousy shape.

I know this probably sounds idiotic, and the answer will probably be a resounding, judgmental, and cleverly worded series of "NO!".
but do you think there's any truth/measure of safety to sharpening needles on leather?

Unless it's a carving board I don't see how it's possible. And please don't re use needles. I think it should be closed. This isn't HR.

I think it is HR.
I mean it's more realistic than telling a junkie with no other means not to re-use a needle.

If something potentially even more dangerous is going to be done either way, wouldn't putting a stop to that by explaining why it's a bad idea be reducing harm?

It's a bad idea because re-using needles is a bad idea. There really isn't any way around that...

Lol. IDK how this isn't closed in all honesty.

It's not at all HR. It's encouraging people to use the same needles over and over. Most addicts who re use needles finally get new ones for them getitng so dull your practically jabbing yourself. That's one of the few motivations. So ya.

OP, you've answered your own question here more or less....

Reusing needles, "sharpened" on leather or not...is not safe...end of story. Use a new needle every time and follow HR procedures.

Have you ever seen these photos before?

If that's how malformed a needle becomes from simply pushing it through skin, repeatedly rubbing the needle intently against leather is going to warp and bend the tip significantly more. I wouldn't be surprised if it leaves little microscopic barbed splinters. There's no way a human could possess the dexterity to 'sharpen' the needle back into the shape it is in that first picture.

Also there's no way the leather could ever be sterile, no matter how careful you were. You're rubbing your needle against the skin of a dead cow.
