Just some lyrics I love... maybe they'll do someone else the good they do me.

"Guess I wasn't the best one to ask
Me myself, with my face pressed up against love's glass
To see that shiny toy I've been hoping for
The one I never could afford
The wide world spins and spits turmoil
And the nations toil for peace
Because of fear upon your chest
Only love will soothe that beast
And my words are paper tigers
No match for the predator of pain inside her
And I said love will come to you
Hoping just because I spoke the words that they're true
Cause if I've offered up a crystal ball to look through
Where there's now one, there will be two
I was born under the sign of Cancer
Like brushing cloth, I smooth the wrinkles for an answer
And I'm always closing my eyes
And wishing I'm fine
Even though I'm not this time
And I say love will come to you
Hoping just because I spoke the words that they're true
Cause if I've offered up a crystal ball to look through
Where there's now one, there will be two
Dodging your memories - a field of knives
Always on the outside looking in on other people's lives
**chorus**
And I wish her insight (the battle loves blindness)
Strength from the milk of human kindness
A safe place for all the pieces that scatter
Learn to pretend there's more than love that matters

great lyrics, great song, bittersweet memories...
my ex loved the indigo girls, and this song (the entire rites of passage album) reminds me of sitting out on my deck Sunday afternoons drinking coffee and reading. We used to read like crazy together, sometimes a whole Sunday would go by and we'd barely say two words to each other before dinner. It's a comfort level I've never really achieved with anyone else.
Do you ever notice that the songs that are written to comfort our broken hearts often just make us sadder?

yeah, if you can get past that whole "vendetta of rage: dyke thing, the indigo girls are pretty kick ass... (says the man with an ani difranco worship complex...)
