Need to make sure I'm safe taking methadone.

I came down with a virus on the 26th. On that night I took the real sudafed
The next day I took another two doses of psudophedirne, later on I took 1 tussicaps 10 mg/8mg for my cough hydrocodone and chlorpheniramine.

Would it be safe to take 20mgs of methadone the next day after getting off of the cold medicine?
 
Yes.. 24 hours after your last dose of opiates would yield perfectly safe use of methadone. Though if your tolerance is only 10mg of hydrocodone, I would definitely take way less than 20mg of methadone. Do you have experience with methadone? Because methadone is a powerful opiate. With no tolerance, 10mg could make you sick, much less 20mg.

Now obviously I have no idea about your tolerance so Iam just stating this in regards to harm reduction, but if you tell us your tolerance we'll be able to answer your question better.
 
Thanks for the quick response, I wasn't getting any help elsewhere. Back to the topic, I took about 20mgs of oxicodone for a week back in January so I have a pretty low tolerance. What would your reccomended dose for someone 6'3 180 be?
 
I would start with 5-10mg methadone. As Brokedown mentioned, 20mg is too much for somebody of your level of tolerance. Methadone is a potent opiate and many people under-estimate it.

Another very important thing to remember about methadone is it takes a very long time to kick in, on the order of hours. Sometimes it can take 3-4 hours to fully kick in. Usually its around 1.5-2 hours. Keep this in mind and don't redose a hour after your first dose just because nothing's happening. Give it time and wait at least 4 hours before attempting a redose. Again, I wouldn't go any higher than 10mg. I would really start with the 5-7.5mg range. Methadone can be very sedating compared to other opiates (esp. when compared to oxycodone, which is, for many people, the most stimulating opiate).

Don't combine methadone with other depressants (downers) such as alcohol, benzodiazepines or barbiturates or other sedating drugs.
 
Thanks for the warnings, espicially as I find myself being impatient. Would it be possible to use 5mg then add 2.5 About 5-6 hours later depending on how im feeling?
 
Just expect to still be feeling it the next day if you re-dose 6 hours in..
 
Waiting 6 hours is between redoses is playing it extremely safe imho, a mod on here told me that the effects are fully felt after 2 to 3 hours according to a medical study, so you could safely redose another 5mg if a starting dose of 10mg (recommended for people with minimal, but existant tolerance) doesn't get you where you want to be.

But please take into account the extremely long half life of mdone, there will still be a substantial amount in your system the next day, so please factor in the build up if taking it consecutively over several days and start with the same low dose on the next few days until you get a feel for it.

I can't stress this enough Methadone is not for the occasional high it is too dangerous i have been on various doses for 4 years for chronic pain and when i first started i thought i could just "take a couple extra" for breakthrough pain well after a full 24 hours of being completely waxed and having to have the wife watch me like a hawk to make sure i did not go into respitory depression while nodding i learned that a little extra or in this case any to the inexperienced was to much PLEASE BE CAREFUL 2.5 mg is the basic dosage for starts and for a drug with a half-life of 96 hours waiting 24 hours before dosage increase is not unheard of Stay Safe..M.

Don't bother i have known more folk die from methadone than Heroin . Fukin stupid idea 4 recreational purpose might as well get some fukin heroin damn sight safer 4 real. If anyone wants to argue that no contest.
Heroin is a less dangerous drug than Dethadone period .
 
Brimz, you are right that it is unwise to take methadone lightly and it is not a drug which is well-suited to recreational use - I agree it is very dangerous.. but people are allowed to make their own choices, wise or unwise, all we want is for them to be as safe as possible!

Having said that, I think most things have been said and the OP's question has been answered, so I am going to close this. Anyone, shoot me a pm if you have any queries :)
