I don't disagree that music and being in a social enviroment would be helpful to the OP-- partially why I suggested going to the gym and taking classes. Maybe I just don't know enough about the true rave culture since I don't think I've been to a rave in a good six years, but what I always hear from my friends is "the colors are so amazing on e... you meet the best people, you will love them... it's so awesome" and they always end up taking E. So it doesn't seem like the best enviroment to make long-lasting connections that aren't related to drugs, but like I said, I don't really have any experience in them, that's just the impression I've gotten.

I would just suggest the OP to try and get into a social scene that just doesn't have anything to do with consuming substances. But realistically in any night-life enviroment those are going to come up.

Dude who suggested going to raves is a flipping idiot.

Threadstarter - You are 21 and have only had sex with a hooker? THAT should be enough motivation to go out and better yourself. Do you have ANY IDEA what you are missing out on?? HOLY CRAP man.

Going back to school - good idea
Going to gym, taking classes - good idea

What do you enjoy beyond video games? Hell, you like them that much? Go learn how to MAKE them. That's a hard industry to get into so you can devote 16 hours a day 7 days a week to JUST THAT. Gives you 1 hour to hit the gym and another to hit on girls.

Speaking of which, look into the self help and seduction communities. I'm serious. They'd do you good.

Stop paying for sex (Dont even buy a random girl a drink!) stop doing drugs and get your life in gear. Trust me, it's a much better way to live.

The essence of boredom is to be found in the obsessive search for novelty.

I'm a little suprised no one has suggested this, but it sounds like you are looking for an overall life change. You're only 21, why not go back to school? There must be something you want to do with your life. If you go to a community college it wouldnt cost you much at all and you could take as many or as few classes as you wanted to. Thats also a good place to find those extra things, like scuba diving, for much cheaper and better quality than you could get anywhere else. I got scuba certified through my school. Classes would give you something to do with all your free time and give you a jump start into a career or whatever you wanted to do with it.

That's a super suggestion. Community colleges are wonderful institutions, and if a person hasn't graduated from secondary, at least here in BC, they get the opportunity to take classes for free, even if they're not related to the secondary curriculum.

Shit, I don't have much of a social life myself compared to lots of people and I sit at home a whole lot during the winters, that over here are long, cold and boring and broke due to the fact that I live in an agricultural area and there's no work to do. Really, keeping from becoming depressed and addicted to things just to feel good comes from making constructive use of time. Not just trying to entertain oneself, but really trying to do something with oneself. Exercise, garden, make art, skate, build things out of wood or something, learn how to play an instrument, whatever. Sometimes doing good things is hard too, but the most fun you'll get out of life is the fun you get from developing new skills. If you absolutely have to, get out of your environment. Find a new town, or find a new job. Those two are often things people think are harder than they are, and things that I've seen work wonders for people who've had life go stale on them

Traveling would be a good idea. Even if its only a few hours away. Get into a new city and check out the local activities music and food.

Take up a team sport. Might be good to have people around you into exercise/health.

And yer, if you have time for porn, drugs n video games you have time for exercise.

Believe it or not I was in the same situation as you. I played heavy video games, then hooked up with an older women. Eventually I got hooked on seeing her and got into drugs. We dated for a year, it was actually GREAT! Not long ago we broke up, but I am definitely a better person now. I love drugs, but just use them for fun and not to deal with problems. I think that's the key for you.

Find a hobby.

sounds expensive. you should be going to school

bad advice. I teach college kids, and believe me we don't need anymore students that are half ass about being there. You should have more foresight than blindly telling a person to go to school. University is not the best choice for all people.

If you have time for video games and call girls, then you have time for the gym.

jackpot.

not only does exercise boost mood, but going to the gym gets you out of the house, puts you in contact with positive people through a positive activity, and can add structure to your life.

as far as activities, i don't think it really matters so long as its something you enjoy.

If you can schedule more hours at work, do so. Pick up another job if you can. Schedule every bit of your time so that you are somewhere making money, making money, making money. If you can get addicted to cash, it will take your time away from other things.

True, being a workaholic has it's downsides, but it's better than negative activities. Maybe you can get into investing your money in stocks or something like that to take your mind away from these other things.

Good luck. It won't necessarily be easy to lead a better life but in the long run your future self will thank your present self.

Very good suggestion.

I was thinking pretty much the same about going back to school and if you're obsessed with computer games why not turn it into a career and train to be a games programmer or something similar?

Also you don't need to go to the gym to exercise, buy a bike and use that instead of busses and cabs or start running before or after work.

I'm Marc by the way, first post :D

^Congrats on your first post! And a good and useful post it was :D

In my original post I forgot to mention another plus: Student discounts!

Being a workaholic sucks. It usually is a negative activity. It's alright to work your ass off to get somewhere, but to just do it to keep yourself distracted and busy is just going to give you stress related illness, or make you looney. At least that's what happened to me. Being addicted to money fucks people up, and being addicted to work made me into a lunatic.
