Need some advise about drugs my mate + heroin (please help)

Its been a long time since i visited this place but somthings gone off and i'd be grateful for a bit of advise.
Heres the story :
My mums mate came round to our house today in tears - i was called down to the kitchen to talk to them about drugs
(She knows her sons been doing drugs, but who doesn't ?)
The problem is im pretty sure that he's been doing Heroin, she explained that he'd been shivering and couldn't get warm quite often (which i believe is one of the withdrawal symptons from takin Heroin) and that he's been spending over £1200 a month + money that he earns from working at a bar.
Pretty difficult to account for considering he doesnt have a car and lives in a small flat above the pub that he works in.
So here are my questions :
1 - Could it be heroin he's been taking ?
- If it could be other stuff what would it be ?
2 - If it is whats the best advise to give his mum / him
- where's the best place to get this advise ?
- what can i do ?
- any tips ?

my advice:
Goto 'The Darkside'... peeps around here don't tend to have sympathy for these types of posts. This is more of a 'get high' sort of board.
Take a look at the FAQ's... PhreeX has a pretty damn good post about surving narcotic withdrawal.
Get him some smack? Instant cure. Try to ween him off, but it's a lot easier said than done. I'm having my own personal battle with prescription pain meds, so I can deeply sympathize with someone who's strung out on scag.
Rent Trainspotting and wish it were that easy. Curl up in bed... cry a lot. Drink lots of apple juice. DON'T FART... there's a good chance he'll shit himself if he's WDing badly.
My recent recipe for SUCKcess... 3 days of hell:
1 eighth of whiskey
a shitload of Immodium Ad
fairly decent amount of pot (i hate pot, but the body buzz helps a bit)
BENZOS!!! Klonopin, Xanax, Valium... any type of downer.
A warm blanket for him to sweat in
Lots of Hot showers (but I didn't really want to leave bed unless to piss)
Movies.. I sobbed like a little bitch to 'Boys Don't Cry'and Trainspotting kinda fueled my anger.
Good luck to your friend. Making opiate euphoria a full-time job will eventually catch up to you. That's why i plan to quit. How many times have you fuckers heard me say that.
