Have some horse aenesthetic, chemical name is Procaine.
It is in liquid form for injections (vetinary), was wondering if anyone knows about it, wether it can be taken orally.
Cheers.
life is short, be a vet.

Procaine - cocaine for prostitutes?

Beat it like it owes you money.....

Well, to put this all back on topic:

Procaine (by itself) is listed as a local anaesthetic with the synonym 'Novocaine(R)'. The dosages I've seen noted are 1% 30mL, and 10% 2mL, however I am not sure if that is meant for human injection.
Be very careful, there is also another veterinary chemical called "Penicillin G Procaine" which is not an anaesthetic as far as I have read, but rather is used as a very strong antibiotic to treat syphilis in horses (!).
Here's some information that may help:
Systemic Effects
Local anesthetics are absorbed into the blood stream, and if large amounts have been used, the level in the blood can cause toxic effects on the cardiovascular and central nervous systems. Initially, animals may become sedate or drowsy. As the blood and CNS levels increase, the animal may become restless and nauseous and may vomit. At even higher doses the animal will convulse, followed by coma. Death occurs due to respiratory and cardiac arrest.
Procaine is more toxic and more likely to produce a sensitivity reaction than is xylocaine.
Drugs Used in Veterinary Medicine.
Procaine (Novocaine) was one of the earliest (l905) local anesthetics to be synthesized and used as an injectable local, however lidocaine has surpassed it in popularity. Procaine also has the major disadvantage of being a benzoic acid derivative which produces a significant number of allergic type reactions. Lidocaine was synthesized in 1943, it was found to be about 4 times as potent as procaine with approximately the same duration of action. Mepivacaine is generally regarded as the local anesthetic least likely to cause tissue reactions in horses. In veterinary medicine lidocaine is by far the most common injectable local anesthetic. When a longer acting drug is required, bupivacaine is generally used. Listed below are several local anesthetics and their relative potencies, duration of actions, and preparations.

That's a pretty serious answer.

here's a cautionary tale about the street use of procaine that someone emailed me. they said i could post it here for everyone to see.
oh and this thread was never moved out this forum...
About 5years ago alot of meth from Adelaide was floating around called 'wah', it was all cut with procaine. The theory of cutting meth with procaine is when snorted gives a pretty good rush kinda like snorting coke or K, you get the picture, it works great, good 'bang' for dollar. But GOD help you if it is used I.V. In small doses gives a ringing ('wah') sound like K and time perception gets screwed up with a time frame of around 30 secs, seems harmless, but if a large dose is injected (back then 0.5 gram steet meth) it meant hang on for dear life! As many found out(including myself) convulsions, then respiratory faliure lapsed and then in some cases death. I couldnt tell you dosages of procaine in each 'street' gram, but its not a lot for it to viable on a 'commercial' point of view.

Novocaine.. I used this once on a boat party a while ago. .. But it was in a cream form and some guy was running around and rubbing it on everyones lips and gums to make them all numb. It was amusing if anything.

I'm actually studying this at uni at the moment...so i have plently of informative, boring drabble for you all on the subject!
Procaine is closely related to cocaine...almost structurally (sp?) identical. This doesn't mean that they the same way...they are very different.
Both are classed in the medical world as local anaesthetics. Cocaine (not the snortable kind) is used in ear, nose (hehehe) and throat surgery, as it is a short acting anaesthetic with not to many adverse affects (when used for its correct purposes).
Procaine is a little different. It is mainly used as an anaesthetic by dentists. It has a special chemical group (for the chemically minded, it is a para-aminobenzoic acid)which for us kids can be very bad. You see, this can cause hypersensitivity reactions, ranging from rashes to anaphylactic shock. This is on top of the normal toxicity effects associated with all local anaesthetics (cocaine, procaine, lignocaine etc) like tremor, convulsions, and myocardial depression (your heart goes into arrest).
Now here's the important bit. When used as an anaesthetic, procaine is mixed with very small concentrations of adrenaline. Why? Because procaine is a vasodilator (ie. makes your veins bigger so that more blood can flow through at a faster rate etc). The adrenaline does the opposite (vasoconstricts). This then stops the procaine from spreading to other unwanted areas to quickly (such as your heart). If too much procaine gets to your heart, it stops. Pretty simple stuff.
So why would it be bad to use as a recreational drug?
Without the adrenaline, procaine would spread around the body too quickly, hence the convulsions and possible cardiac arrest. Not good. Not only have people died using it recreationally, but also "under the knife" so to speak. Patients have died as not enough adrenaline was given, and it spread to quickly. Was very common in the "olden days" when surgery was performed too close to the heart (eg: the arm).
Put you off yet???
About taking it orally??? Unfortunately for all you game people out there willing to try the stuff *wink wink* it can't be taken orally. Well you could take it but it wouldn't do anything to exciting. As procaine exists as a weak base (pH of 8-9) it cannot be completely ionised as the body's normal pH. This means that is has trouble crossing the body's membranes, therefore stays in the blood...bad bad bad. This is why all anaesthetics are injected directly into the area to be anaesthetized.
Well, there you go. Meaningless babble. If you want my opinion, not worth the trouble. It is a short acting drug so you would have to keep taking heaps in order to stay up there. And if you took heaps, you'd more likely than not end up in a heap on the cold floor not feeling a thing coz you've anaesthetized your entire body, covered in a horrible ugly rash, you'd dribble heaps and would not be able to speak or move coz you've killed all your motor neurons.
Hmmmmm...sounds a little like last weekend *wink wink*
Be safe guys...
Dr Jez.
