Mental Health Need help with Severe anxiety. Trying not to drink. Alternatives?

I was on it for 3 years and tho I decided to stop taking it for personal reasons (it completely flattened my mood and I feel that having mood variations is actually important to how I process emotions), it totally worked as a day to day stress reliever/alcohol stand in.

3 years? Wow. Well I’ll definitely look into that then. It seems to suggest a 10g dose. Is that right? Seems a lot. I’m on an SSRI for OCD but I’m not actually clinically depressed. My mood is a little up and down though and I totally get what you’re saying. The variance in mood an emotion is what makes us human. However, I just can’t take being in this heightened state of anxiety all the time, I just want some peace.

I've always heard start with 3. I usually take 7 or 8 and get zonked off it with no tolerance. Though it's nothing to worry about and near impossible to OD, IIRC.

Worst case you throw up, because it tastes like absolute garbage. I recommend mixing with orange juice if you try it. Although that might ruin orange juice for you :LOL:

Yeah I read it’s disgusting. Do you recommend the powder then or capsules? Would capsules be as effective?

Bro do not start with 10 gs! My highest dose was 2 grams 3x daily so 6. Even if you are a regular user and you need more than 7-9 grams your kratom is garbage or you need a tolerance break. (Or you were shooting dope recently lol)

I would recommend brewing the tea and then drinking half the pot.

I swear to God toss and wash or capsules never fucking worked well for me and I'm a skinny guy with a quick metabolism who never has problems with orally taking drugs.

The high doses you see posted are cause most pill popper are too lazy i guess to brew tea?

Chewing whole leaves works well too but they are hard to find and expensive.

Use honey to sweeten it tastes like pretty bad straight till youre used to it

I used a 750 ml or 1 L cast iron tea pot with mesh strainer with coffee filter, throw like 3-4 g of kratom into the strainer after the water has boiled and let it kinda simmer with the kratom in there with lid on at low temp for 15-30 min.

It's hard to over heat the active compounds and destroy them, they are pretty hardy from my exp. Like you cant fuck it up.

Pour up half the pot and gulp it down quick with honey.

[I've used weak kratom just like ground coffee in a black and decker style drip coffee machine and it made kratom tea just fine, so high heat and slow brew is really all you need, its just more wasteful and you need more kratom with a drip machine]

Wow, thanks for that; it was very interesting. I actually read a fair bit about therapeutic applications of MDMA, whilst at uni. I studied Biomedical Science and am fascinated with how the body functions.

Hahaha, I thought that 10g sounded like a lot dude; thanks for the heads up. I’ll look at starting on 2g 3 x day then. Brewing tea sounds ideal, as I love a good cup of tea lol. I’m British, it’s what we do man!
 
SSRI's are actually pretty effective, but can take up to 2 months to fully work (they actually started working significantly for me in just 3 days and a recent study showed that it they can make significant serotonin increases in the brain in only 90 minutes for around 11% of people).

Benzodiazepines (if you live in a country where they aren't almost impossible to get) are the best for anxiety IME, but are only for the short term.

Barbiturates work well, too.

Gabapentinoids help a lot.

Tricyclics like Amitriptyline or Tetracyclics like Trazodone both work for some people.

I find Chlorpromazine (Thorazine) is one of the only non-habit-forming meds that work pretty well.

Beta Blockers are great for the physical effects of anxiety (shaking, nausea, tachycardia, high blood-pressing, trouble breathing etc) but do nothing psychologically.
 
I’d not heard of that before, just looked it up and it’s a Beta blocker. I was on Propanalol many years ago, I think that’s similar. Made me feel nauseous but my anxiety was still out of control. Thanks for the recommendation though 👍🏻
Hi~ I was gonna recommend propanol bc that’s what I’m taking for my anxiety, but it seems like that’s outta the question. It’s admittedly not helpful at all with the mental aspects of anxiety, which are the real hurdles, anyway. I want to second the recommendation for kratom though! And if you haven’t already gotten it down by now, a few tips:
Kratom is tricky especially if you just eyeball ur doses (not recommended!! use a scale!). Though even when you are precise, which you should be when you can, it’s worth going slow every time you’re using a new batch. Personally, I’ve probably barfed up at least a quarter of all the kratom I’ve ingested bc I didn’t bother building a tolerance beforehand (I am irrational and this is avoidable). Everything from the strain, the method of production, and potency of the individual crop itself affects the strength and therefore how ur body responds. Just be careful because barf is already no fun, but wait til u barf kratom, lol.
This is from the perspective of someone living in the US, but just a note that OTC kratom can be great but can also be a massive waste of money. I recommend looking into online vendors instead of buying from somewhere like a gas station or smoke shop, that way you can read reviews, and in the best case know the source of your kratom. And if you prefer capsules, consider capping it yourself if you find you really enjoy kratom. The powder alone costs WAY less than the same amount in capsules, especially when shipping.
Lastly, some kratom works and some doesn’t. It’s again about the batch, and about your body. If you have a good experience but the next one is iffy, or doesn’t work at all, try again. It happens.

Can't you get benzos? Other ways? There are countless ways. I just script myself benzos, don't need a doctor approval...its 2020

+1, Gym really helped me when I was in my early 20s with similar issues. Getting in physical health, etc. If you don't want to join a gym try googling scooby's workshop, he's a great guy and got me into getting in shape when I couldn't really be arsed with life tbh.

Your problem is life threatening. People are know to die from alcohol withdrawals without benzodiazepine/barbiturate support.

You need to go see multiple health professionals if you are not getting the help you need.

Have you tried CBT or fitness therapies to help control you anxiety.

There are plenty of studies showing the efficacy of running on controlling anxiety :



Benzodiazepines are a very short term solution, long term use of benzodiazepines has its own significant problems that make them a unworkable long term therapy (brain atrophy, mental decline, cognitive impairment)

Medication can help you with a support structure while you build long term strategies to cope with and ease you difficult circumstance. But it’s a short term step to step out into doing it yourself. Training wheels I suppose are a good way to describe it.
