Alright as of late I've been wanting to cutdown and come off the opiates completely. I've been taking oxycodone in varying doses usually (60-100mg) a day for about 3 months now. I feel like a pussy because for me as soon as I feel wds kick in I grab the pills, partly because of the heart thing. My main questions are what is my best course of action to quit them? I usually dose at 5am before work, so during the weekends I wake up later and feel like my heart is about to explode. Is this mental addiction or physical? In scared to stop because I don't want to have a heart attack. Any input would be great, because I want to quit and still be able to function at work and just have a happy opiate free life. Thanks

Sorry buddy but you cant have your cake and eat it too....You are GOING TO BE MISERABLE quitting opiates....as well you should be. If it was painless to quit no one would be addicted and could stop anytime they want...

You will be uncomfortable. You will be functioning at less than 100% for awhile. And you MUST do it. Eventually your job is going to suffer way more as a result of continued use than now. To avoid the BIGGEST IMPACT on work, I would recommend quitting on a Thursday. By friday you'll be starting, especially by the end of work, but you should be able to make it through. Then you'll have the brunt, those 3 days on a FRI/SAT/SUN. By mon you still wont be doing great but after 3 days you'll be a bit improved. Possibly take monday off, then thats 4 days.

For that week at work you WILL be feeling like shit. Cant avoid it. Read the W/D threads: advil, immodium, exercise, etc, will be your best friends for that week of misery.

Do not taper. You will find every excuse to "start the taper tomorrow".

Thanks for the reply, that's the kind of response I needed. The biggest thing for me is im worried about my heart. Im young 22, and never had any kind of heart problems and I'm in generally good medical shape. It's just because I can feel my heart pounding hard and it scares the crap out of me. Im going to see my doctor this week, and I'll get reassurance that I'm healthy enough to quit without any heart related issues. I've collected a fairly good amount of things to help me quit, including a lot of Benzos and weed. I know that benzo use should be low and regulated. I know I can do this, 1 step at a time. And I'll feel better for it in the long run.

I recommend a three day weekend. You don't have a serious habit yet, get off the bus now! You've had the flu before right? It's easy. Do IT!!!!

If the heart pains etc are too unbearable you could try tapering off your Oxycodone. The problem with that is that when you have an addiction it can be very hard to control your use and use less. The heart issues are likely not anything serious, it is mostly anxiety. Opioid withdrawal can cause heart palpitations, chest pains, etc, but I've never heard of anyone dying from a heart attack when kicking opioids (and I've done a lot of research on the subject), and I have certainly never heard of anyone dying from quitting oxycodone.

That's a good idea to see a doctor (ASAP - don't use it as an excuse to keep using like "I'll quit after I see the doctor" and then keep putting off making an appointment). Maybe they can give you some meds or tips for helping with the withdrawals or even help you with a taper if you are getting a legit prescription or the Oxy (it'a a lot easier to taper if you have to go to the pharmacy every day and are only given a specific amount of the opioid than trying to do it on your own, but if you are getting the Oxy illegally most doctors will be unwilling to give you any other opioids aside from methadone and buprenophine, and your habit is definitely not bad enough to warrant going on one of those soul-suckers).

It's really great that you have decided to quit before your habit gets worse and I wish you the best of luck. There are OTC meds and supplements that can help with the withdrawals if you'd like to know about any of them.

Just remember to keep telling yourself that you don't have to act on your cravings and that the worst of the withdrawals will be over in a few days if you can just get through them.

Alright, I've arranged a week off work and I'm going to go in balls to the wall cold turkey. I feel like a wimp compared to the hardcore opiate users I read about on this site. I just want to thank everyone on here for their support, and I'll keep everyone updated on my progress. Hopefully the Benzos mixed with a little herb and hash from time to time can keep me sane. Thanks again.

Wanting to avoid withdrawal is a universal feeling for all people. You certainly aren't a "pussy" for trying to avoid a painful sickness. Craving opiates while you're dope sick is just your unconscious mind's way of trying to solve the problem.
I've gone through withdrawal a small handful of times, mostly between my refills in the past. One of the things I've found that helps the most is Loperamide. I'm sure you've heard this before, but it helps SO much with the physical pains of withdrawal. Try reading up on Loperamide more before using it. It's been my experience that loperamide helps with the physical pains and withdrawals a lot.

We obviously can't do any sourcing on here, but where I'm from, anyone can buy a 250 pill count bottle for hardly any money. good luck
