Jabberwocky
Frumious Bandersnatch
Hi all.
I need some advice regarding which artist/tracks to listen to while tripping on psychedelic drugs.
I bet there's been a ton of these threads already but what I'm looking for is somewhat specific.
Back when I was a teen, I had this period lasting about 2 years where I would listen to trace exclusively, tripping as well as sober. Since then, I haven't listened to that kind of music other than if someone else put it on because I find it rather boring, at least when Im sober. Not the genre it self but the tracks I used to like as I think this is a genre with unlimited possibilities.
Basically, what makes a lot of trace sound boring to me is the following:
The bass line often sucks ass. Listening to the same pattern over and over and over again with the artist paying zero attention to dynamics or articulation, is enough to make an otherwise interesting track sound pretty boring to me.
Lack of overall use of dynamics regarding Db. It's cool when a track has quite parts and "in your face" parts when used correctly.
Lack of harmony, which most likely stems from the fact that a lot of trace artist knows jack shit about basic music theory when it comes to notes and how they "work" together.
Lack of interesting melodic patterns. "Psychedelic trace sounds" (for the lack of a better word) can be awesome, but why does it often have to be just a bunch of crazy sounds instead of a well played melody?
What I'm looking for.
Most of this list would be the opposit of the above mentioned stuff but other than that:
I've never heard a trace track in which the artificial bass line was substituted by a real bass guitar but I think that might be cool.
Drums! In particular bongos and such used in some sort of cross rythmic pattern to complement the primary rythmic foundation.
Natural sounds - water, the rainforest, jungle sounds and such. I've heard some tracks before which had a intro made up around stuff like this and it was really cool.
The use of odd time signatures and alternation between time signatures in general.
If you have any recommendations based on the above mentioned stuff, when I would be much obliged to hear about it. Artist and specific tracks a like.
Thanks
