hi all. i've been an alcoholic for years, been recently introduced to H. my BF and i use together but i am always terrified of an OD. i have seen him OD before but we were at a dealers and had stuff to reverse it. now we use alone it scares me, as last weekend we came close and the weekend before we both did but not badly enough to need medical help. now...i have naltrexone in tablet form. what i need to know is how would i administer it if he was to OD? would it be best to crush it up and and inject or try and force it orally? i know this sounds like a crass question, but i'm just trying to keep us safe.
thanks all :)

Naltrexone isn't as fast-acting as naloxone, so it woudn't be as good in an emergency situation, but while you are waiting for the ambulance it probably wouldn't hurt to give it. Always call an ambulance even if you give naloxone (or naltrexone) as the person may well still need medical attention, and naloxone doesn't last anywhere as near as heroin so when it wears off they can OD again - it is a holding measure only, really.

Crushing it up and sticking it under the tongue would probably be your best bet as in an emergency situation, although the bioavailability isn't great - prepping a pill for injection, especially something that takes longer to kick in that naloxone, isn't ideal and would waste valuable time when you should be calling for an ambulance and possibly doing CPR.. and oral administration could result in choking on the pill.

Overall naltrexone really isn't good for emergency ODs - you want naloxone, and an ambulance ASAP.

There is a good guide to the emergency services and what to do in an overdose situation here.

thanks so much for that info. we try to keep our use pretty low key and he is always wary of ambulances. i don't care as long as we're both safe.
