Can anyone point me to a reference where I'll find the solubility of Na-GHB in ethanol?

Just wondering if it would be possible for SWIM to use a difference in solubility to separate Na-GHB and Na-OAc (sodium acetate).

Is SWIY trying to purify a sample of GHB that has NaOAc in it as an impurity? Sodium acetate isn't more toxic than common table salt, so it probably doesn't matter if there's some of it in your GHB...

yes, though the motivation is improving taste and a slight obsession with purity along with a desire to minimize the sodium concentration vs. GHB.

Totally understandable. I have seen GBL -> GHB conversion procedures online which specify that NaOH in dry ethanol reacted with GBL will precipitate solid GHB.
Searching "methanol GHB" turns up a few of these.

Important to ensure the ethanol is dry, as GHB is hygroscopic and very soluble in water.

^^Most commonly available dry ethanol contains pretty toxic byproducts however. And pure ethanol is slightly hygroscopic as well. Just a little sidenote.

On topic I cant think of any procedures for doing this you could easily perform in your kitchen.

To the OP: we shouldn't discuss synthesis on BL, but I think that the problem here is that someone has used too much NaOH in the hydrolysis of GBL, and has had to neutralize the excess with acetic acid/vinegar. Less NaOH would yield a more pure product...
