N. Korea Launches Missile Into Sea of Japan, long range Taepodong fails in flight

NK is pushing the envelope.

i suppose desperate people...do desperate things.

NK's actions are only going to isolate her further...it's a purely a game of brinkmanship.

where this ends is anybody's guess. but, in an ordinary society....."lunatics are eventually incapacitated".

i hate to think where this is going to end. :(

LOL
since when has testing a missile been a "desperate thing"
US has been testing missiles at Kwajelien Atholl in the pacific within the past fortnight or so.

nah nah nah i got it - inspired by Zero the Hero - North Korea nukes Iran, thus enamouring itself from the US perspective and becoming the saviour of the civilised world.

I like the way this is in quotes: ....."lunatics are eventually incapacitated"

well, a rational man would know there is no true winner in nuclear war, but is the leader of north korea a rational man? didn't he claim to walk on the moon and invent the toaster, among other schizo bullshit?

that doesn't concern you? you think another nation with nukes is actually helping world peace? give me a break. the U.S. certainly has a ton of nukes, but the public would never support their preemptive use, even if Bush and co. got away with an invasion of Iraq on those pretenses, when you drop the word nuclear (or nucular to some) in a conversation there are automatic warnings going off in the head of pretty much every rational adult.

i don't see the spread of nuke technology to a backwards dictatorship like North Korea as anything but a problem....

I could be wrong, but this might be N. Korea's "cry for help". Kim Jong is probably doing all of this to garner America's attention so they can make a pact in humanitarian aid.

However, Kim Jong Il is a very unpredictable and unique man, who has proven that his country's well being shows little interest to him. For all we know, he could be approaching death and be thinking, "fuck it, I might as well go down in history with a huge fireworks display".

I have got to say though, the man has very interesting taste in clothing and hairstyles. Quite a character indeed.
I heard he is gathering up all triplets born in the country and throwing them in orphanages, because somehow they are a symbol of his son (future president) losing power, or some whacky shit.

^pretty much my concern. To all of you saying that this isn't a problem, wtf? Kim Jong Il is fucking nuts, and he's proven it time and time again. To state that the situation is okay because he "probably won't launch anything" is absurd. Hasn't anyone ever heard of erring on the side of caution?

A rational man wouldn't buy into the pathetic propaganda attempts perpertrated by the US 8)

Yers, but that is too late once you hve already nuked iran. But, regardless of what you think every rational American may think, do you really believe ratinality plays a part in international relations?

don't see the spread of nuke technology to a backwards dictatorship like North Korea as anything but a problem....

Well, you are a retrd then. Nobody wants NK to have nukes but it is lun acy to think the ay to achieve thwt is by threatening them.

Yeah just read this a bit ago. I love how it also causes the record high in oil price.

Korea is starting to sound like that kid in the playground just testing his limits to see how good of a fight he can provoke. Shit like this makes you worry that "its only a matter of time."

We dont need f'en nukes. We have assasins. We have robotic armaments. Its not like all of NK is in a jihad against the US - its a barbaric and prehistoric dictatorshit run by a handful of people. We should kill them off with education.

No, what’s absurd is suggesting that the best thing we could do would be to plunge into a war that would-undoubtedly-cost thousands-to hundreds of thousands-of lives. A war, which would not only pose the real risk of a military response from China but would also destablize the world even further, all for the sake of some remote possibility of something happening at sometime, is what's insane.

Has N Korea actually threatened to attack any nation unprovoked? No. Do they even have the bomb? No. Do we know if they are really even close to being able to develop the bomb? No. For all we really know, their nuclear weapons program might be 20 years away from producing a weapon. Has N Korea attacked any other country since the end of the Korean War? No. Plus (as previously mentioned) do they have a reliable delivery system? Not really.

Now even if they developed these weapons the bombs would be very few, very small and very primitive by standards. Jong might be crazy, but he still realizes what the consequences of his actions would be, and while he might not care about the welfare of his people I’m sure he cares a great deal about his own life and grip on power. I doubt he wants to die anymore then anyone else. Does anyone really believe that did the N Koreans actually develop a couple of small primitive nukes and managed to place them on some of their unreliable missiles that-for no reason at all-they’d just decide launch them at somebody one day for absolutely no reason? Just like the Soviets were going to do? It's not out of the question, but it is highly unlikely.

Jong and his crazy father have existed in their little bubble for the last 50 years, rattling their sabers from time to time, but that’s all it’s ever been, why would they suddenly and unexplainably change that now? Is there any solid evidence to show that it has changed? No, there isn’t. The best thing to do, is what we’ve been doing for the last 50 years, just sit back and don’t threaten him, ignore him, eventually he’ll die or be assassinated.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like the idea of N Korea possessing the bomb either, and as far as I’m concerned, the less countries that possess nuclear weapons the better. But, considering all the variables and “what ifs” in this particular situation I certainly don’t believe that the “rewards” of any military action would outweigh the risks.

Scary people. If they did launch any kind of missle at anyone you could be sure they would be instantly gang raped by quite a few countries. I'm sure the UN would help us on that one.

Yea I'm sure the UN will most likely help. They will create more sanctions against N.Korea, then all the members will make millions in secret deals by providing equipment and aid to N Korea. I'm sure even Kofi Annan son Kojo will get back in to the action!..

What I don't understand is why so many of you are buying into the hype? Seriously, for one, any bomb they might be able to build would be tiny. Two, their delivery systems are shit. Three, how many, and at what rate do you think they could produce these "imaginary" weapons? Fourth, is anyone old enough to remember the Cold War? Remember MAD? The North Korean's are perfectly aware that the launch of any such weapon at pretty well any nation on Earth-bar Iran possibly-would see them instantly and completely annihilated. The threat from N Korea, even if they possessed the bomb and the delivery systems now, would be minimal.

Agreed, it was just a check mate move. No real threat, and the white house is handling it well..

I just hope no special forces succeed in assignation of Kim Jong Il because some crazy militant extremist will be sure to fallow and vow to seek revenge..
Honestly were better off with this crazy guy...

i am unfortunately old enough to remember MAD. and that reagan thought we could "win" a nuclear war. i guess that meant he (and the psychic in his employ) would still be alive afterwards.

ugh, thanks for reminding about the nightmares i had as a kid.

lol.

Reagan was bluffing when he said we could win a war. It was to give confidence and remove fear from the American people. He knew that it would end in disaster.
