So, one thing led to another which led to a night without sleep, a job interview, followed by another night without sleep, so i foolishly took 300mg of codeine for sedation, which contained 5 grams of apap also, (effervescent tabs). This was over 8 hours, after which i've had some problems.

With N-Acetlcysteine can anybody with experience tell me how long one should use this substance in order to help the liver detoxify acetaminophen/paracetamol?

Anybody here who's used or is using N-Acetylcysteine have any advice for a dosing regemin that would be best in this scenario?

Nope, it's too late.

Next time don't be so stupid (glad you realise it was foolish).

If you want to detoxify your liver, first and foremost, buy some milk thistle. In addition to this, you could also buy some dandelion coffee since the natural compounds present will help and it also tastes really good.

The most effective treatment is time. Your liver will repair itself eventually, but I would go to the doctor for liver enzyme test to be sure.

Artificial Emotion, on what authority are you saying its to late? There is not a clear time scheme in the original post. N-Acetylcysteine is one of the chief components of emergency treatment of APAP. For 36 hour N-Acetylcysteine is beneficial. I'd always prefer anyone in danger of complications go to an emergency department. AE try to be a little more sensitive and informed.

N-acetylcysteine should be given
empirically and may be effective up to 36 or more hours after ingestion, particularly in patients with fulminant hepatic failure.
