Nutmeg and its psychoactive constituents have been long mislabeled as a deliriant and/or a psychedelic. Even in the leading theory (the one on psychonautwiki) there is only theorized anticholinergic action and effects that are recognized as being manifested by acting on acetylcholine I believe are instead caused almost purely by (mainly) GABA and (partly) cannabinoid modulation. Myristicin and especially its very close relative Eugenol (both in abundance in the nut oil) are well known GABA positive modulators and a pure Eugenol overdose, GABAergic in nature, presents a very similar symptom profile to a nutmeg overdose. Some unique effects not attributable to GABA can be given to the promiscuous enzyme inhibition of the Myr-Eug combo with both MAO-A and MAO-B, and the CYP enzymes (self-inhibition of metabolism extending psychoactive experience?)
*I will mention the cannabinoid modulation is not mediated through Myristicin nor Eugenol but three other compounds in the nut that inhibit FAAH and MAGL (indirect positive modulation)
