Hey,

I had a thread that contained very sensitive information. I deleted it earlier and it was gone. I made sure of it on purpose. Suddenly, I logged in and I see that it was re-opened. Now I am kinda of scared and nervous since it involves a criminal case currently in progress. Can you please tell me why it was re-opened? under what circumstances does this happen?

Go and report the thread that you deleted previously. In the comments on reporting it- state it was sensitive, that you don't want it to be publicly visible ever again. If that doesn't work after a couple days, contact a sr mod, sr mod forum assignments are available in announcements. Try to not touch anything while you are in there. Sr mods tend to be very germy.

Alright ;) :) I admit they may not be any more germ laden(riddled with bacteria and the like) than other biological entities, but its true they are germ laden.Maybe I'm a bit exaggerating, probably sr mod germs can not transverse the internet---No excuse to not wash though.

Honestly if something is really important the report function is the way to bring it to staff attention. Less important stuff by the "chain of command" (in a druggie sort of way) that you can find outlined in the announcement forums.

^Exactly right. Reporting with an explanation is your best bet. The only reasons I can think of for why a thread might be brought back after being deleted by the member (this is usually respected and left alone) is that it was either a mistake, in which case it can just be deleted again, or someone thought the info was important enough to be worth saving. If the latter is true, there are ways for mods to "take ownership" of a thread, so that all its contents remain the same, it simply becomes a new OP. Mods should ask your permission before doing this though.

if it's really urgent or sensitive, you'd be quicker just deleting it again (if you're the one who started the thread). in the 'reason for deletion' box, type something like "PLEASE DO NOT RE-OPEN!!!!!1".

there's no way a mod should ever undelete someone's thread without good reason and discussion with the OP beforehand. like fiz said, it's possible to reinstate a thread with your posts stripped out of it, but that's pretty rare.

I think it was my fault, I accidentally left the tick-box ticked and approved something else. Sorry.
