My tester died on me, why??

I went to test a pill, took the cap off, poured it out and it was already purple/black, does anyone know what would have caused it to do that?? I am pretty pissed off because I only used it about 5 times, $4 per test is pretty expencive. It was one of those Chemical Generation E testers, can anyone help?

somehow you contaminated it with MDxx. a small bit must gotten in. be more careful next time.

Damn, must have been from the powder I tested.

always try and hold the bottle far enough away from the powder that when the drop falls it isnt still attached to the bottle, if you know what i mean

Just a thought.
It could also be that the bottle was slightly contaminated when it was filled.
We've seen this sometimes too, one out of every 100 goes bad without a good reason (and of course we mail a new one right away if this happens to one of our customers).
Same with leaking kits, one out of every ... (whatever) starts leaking, a replacement is mailed right away.
