Glad I could help.
I suggest reading through my other posts if you want more information.
Your short term memory will improve with time.
Long-term heavy ex-users of serotonin drugs DO sometimes show subtle defects in short term memory. Subtle.
Give it more time, and you will get better at life.
Your problem is likely due to serotonin lesions in the hippocampus. This would cause a localized decrease in blood flow. This area of the brain is known to sustain damage from serotonin drugs. It can also be damaged by prolonged stress.
I imagine you would have a hard time learning new directions somewhere or navigating even with a map, right?
The hippocampus is not only critical to mapping out direction, such as which way you are walking, but it also maps out new memories...
It helps the brain turn new input into stored memories. It also helps move new short term memory into long term memory. Once a memory is established as long term, a damaged hippocampus no longer prevents the memory from being accessed.
This is one of the first areas of the brain to be damaged in Alzheimer's disease.
Good news:
The hippocampus is one of the regions of the brain with proven ability to heal itself. In fact, research has shown that stem cells are constantly available to this brain region! Whoah.
You know what else has been proven to help the hippocampus?
Exercise.
No shit. In elderly patients 30 minutes of cardio per day for six months resulted in a measurable increase in the size of the hippocampus.
In other studies, lots of cardio has been shown to increase 'total brain volume'. Meaning the brain literally weighs more.
One reason why is NEW capillaries are sprouted from existing blood vessels.
Not only will cardio exercise help increase the blood supply to the whole brain, it will also lower stress hormones significantly. This is very important to the hippocampus.
It ALSO increases a protein known as BDNF or 'brain derived neurotrophic factor'. This protien actually INCREASES the ability of STEM cells in the brain to sprout new cells! This is happening in the hippocampus, the forebrain, and the cerebral cortex!
I strongly suggest weight lifting too, because it will give you a dopamine rush like you wouldn't believe. Especially after a few days of it. The 'high' starts as the muscles begin healing themselves, about an hour or two after the workout. But CARDIO is the best thing for your brain.
Not only will weight lifting and cardio significantly benefit the brain's healing process, but it will ALSO speed up your metabolism. This means that even when you aren't exercising, your body is still burning more calories than normal. Weight lifting has been shown to increase calorie consumption for several days after working out!
This faster metabolism will speed up the WHOLE thing. You are literally skipping days if you do this. I bet you could speed up the whole process by at least 30%....and feel a LOT better in the time you still have to wait.
Pretty clear message, right?
You know what to do. Get started. Today.
And do it again tomorrow. And the day after.
I work out at least 7 days in a row before I take a 2 day break.
Don't stop for anything. If your head hurts, take some ibuprofen and drink some water....but get out there and work out hard. If you don't think you can do that much, then do SOMETHING. Force yourself.
Once you have gotten through the first week, reward yourself with some damn beers! It won't hurt you, in moderation. You will also be amazed at how good beer tastes after a workout!
Smoke brown?
Dude, listen to me carefully...
Heroin is morphine. Morphine is for surgical pain.
WHY do you need that much of a high?
There are other opiates out there that are MUCH safer.
Not only will the 'h' get you in a LOT of trouble if you are ever caught, but it is going to FUCK UP your recovery!
You are stimulating the opiate receptors in your brain which is causing a massive release of dopamine. It probably makes you feel a LOT more normal for a few hours, am I right?
That is because your serotonin damage in the brain actually has a big impact on the dopamine pathways. In fact, I have told others with serotonin damage that I believe it is the disconnect of the dopamine pathways that actually results in how we feel.
Many people in recovery and schizophrenics respond to antidepressants that work on the dopamine receptors. But they do NOT use morphine to do it!
You need a SLOW steady increase in dopamine, like the one earned through exercise. Or maybe a prescription, which you could easily request from a doctor or clinic.
If you continue to use the brown anyways, understand that it will 'down-regulate' your dopamine receptors! That means that this disconnect that is already responsible for how you feel....this lack of proper serotonin/dopamine connections, will be made WORSE. You will WIDEN the gap.
How often do you smoke?
Repeated use, I guarantee, will FUCK you up even more.
I guarantee.
Oh yeah....and working out is going to LOWER your tolerance. This will increase the risk of using h.
For god's sake, do NOT inject it. The risk of overdose goes way up that way.
Bottom line: Beer is great. Heroin is overkill.
How often do you smoke?
Key question...
I am willing to BET that smoking often is going to make your days much more SHITTY. I would bet your brain...
You are.
In the very least you are going to SLOW down the recovery process and worsen your bad days a lot.
In the worst you could be risking a permanent state of schizophrenia.
Still gonna smoke it?
How often do you smoke?
Very important to answer this one honestly.
You may very well ignore my advice and keep doing it.
If so, then next time you get high...find some posts in The Dark Side by heroin and opiate users. Read what their experience has to teach you. Read it. You have no excuse not to.
Oh yeah, how often do you smoke?
I am not just asking to get an answer (which I want)...
I am asking so that you will ask yourself this question as you continue to use.
If you refuse to use the judgment you have left by deciding to quit, do NOT be such a dumb ass that you refuse to keep track of your own addiction. Don't just look the other way.
Stay aware of the risks, like your changing tolerance....and getting arrested. And feeling REALLY bad when you start withdrawing.
The withdrawals should be a big BLINKING sign telling you it is time to quit. This is proof that you have further down-regulated your dopamine receptors. If you continue smoking after this sign, you are going to be so much more fucked than you are now.
I promise.
Long-term heavy users of heroin can develop permanent down-regulation. Some take 5 years to feel normal again, some never do....
I know it sucks, but now is NOT the time to keep doing drugs.
Listen to those who know...
Recovery from psychedelics is special. It is a long, complex process. Let this be a time of healing. For once, chose to live sober.
If you are lucky, you can experiment again in a few years as an adult. Keep abusing your brain when its already hurt, and you may NEVER be able to get high again.
Any more questions, you let me know.
One more thing, how often do you smoke?
