I wrote this last night in a burst directly into Notepad (which is strange, because for several years I have written almost all of my poetry by hand in journals) and in a rare departure from style I actually employed verse paragraph (stanza) breaks. I'm pretty happy with this piece; I don't know if I will title it. At the very least it needs to sit for a few days before I do anything with it.

Untitled

Bury me shallow, each year
add layers until the mountain
manifests itself. Our love
was only letters come alive

though what inscriptions
are inscribed in is always
dust. And ashes scattered
caught wind and went

where they weren't welcome;
disasters never made it
home, the hearth burned out
and the heart broke over

promises of promise meant
to soothe yourselves, uncertain
what unfolded out of the tension
could ever be controlled again

suddenly seized inertial,
disrobing then discarded:
examined unfit again,
slight defamation marring

ceremonies for release and consecration.
Restraints pulled tight
by reflex thus forgiven by default
although the events

were always dissected.
Watch what you built grow
eclipsing all the endings
i could not become.

you sounds like every word was especially hand-picked for this poem. i guess months of collecting your thoughts really paid off for you dear... i've missed your work!

But it definitely deserves a title.
