My first lucid dream

I was a lucid dream virgin until last night.

I have just started taking 5-htp (split into two evening doses, one before dinner, another before bed).
Lat night I was in a dream world that I was able to control. I made conscious decisions.
It was absolutely amazing <3

To be honest, up until now, I thought that lucid dreams didn't exist.
I thought that people who claimed to control their dreams - were simply dreaming they had control.
How incredibly wrong I was!

It doesn't matter what I dreamt about.
My dreams are usually confusing and detailed. This was no exception.
Something about an institution, driving, people I knew.. Nothing exciting.
BUT - I had control - it was so much fun!

Strangest thing - despite all the dream action, I woke up refreshed.
This is a new development. I wonder why.

It's night time, I'm off to bed! Yay!

I know with certain medications, especially anything that makes you nod can enhance your dreams making them more intense and lucid. My dreams on methadone were really intense to the point when I woke up, it took me 5 minutes to switch to reality and finally realize I am awake and I'm not dreaming anymore. I hated it at some points to where I wish that drug 'hynocyl' (sp) from the Freddy Kreuger movie was real, ha. This drug prevented people from dreaming. :)

Also, the drug that helps you quit smoking can give you weird dreams. My neighbor told me about it and I've heard that it's one of the 'warnings' so to speak.

Good luck to ya either way! I wonder if dreams actually mean anything pyschologically or if it's just random thoughts... I tend to think the latter.

I've heard the same about the quit smoking drug - a few of my friends were on it at one point.

I just remembered one of the anti-depressants I was on for some time - don't remember the name of it, but I think it started with "A" - you were meant to take it at night and one of the possible side effects were nightmares. I used to have insanely violent nightmares and wake up tired and scared, as if I had just lived through it. Worst part - I could remember all the details. Still can. Needless to say, I changed to different meds soon enough.

I've always been of the opinion that dreams are a way for our minds to process information or deal with stress in our lives. However, after experiencing lucid dreams, I'm starting to rethink that point of view.
What is the mechanism that enables us to take control within our dreams? Curiouser and curiouser..
