my doctor is trying to kill me on my birthday

Ok, I have been taking lorazepam 4mg a day for nearly a year now with no issues. I havn't even had the dose increased in over 6 months. Always refill on time, never early. Now for some reason on my fucking birth day the doctor told the pharmacy not to refill it and provided no reason.

I have 0 left. The last time I stopped taking it I had a seizure. Now I am at the dr office dealing with this bullshit when I am supposed to be having a birthday dinner with my family.

Fuck doctors, fuck drugs and fuck the healthcare system in the usa. Sorry this is more of a venting than a question but honestly I'm stressed out as hell right now.

That's rough man. Sorry to hear about your situation. Hopefully he has some sense and realizes that benzodiazepine withdrawal EXISTS and is not pleasant. I wish you the best. And happy birthday BTW!

Did the doctor specifically tell them not to, or did it just have zero refills left (I need to see my dr every time I get a new xanax script, no refills can be written on it)? What happened at the doctors office? I'm just kinda curious.

And that sucks to have to spend your birthday that way. Try to have a happy birthday, hope something good comes out of it.

EDIT: Maybe this is better suited in TDS than OD?

schedule 4s can be refilled. He just isnt giving you any refills, xanax can be refilled.

Well I took some melatonin so I am about to just pass out. The dr left and the nurses are saying something like they have it marked as refilled. I don't know to be honest. This has never happened before. I have a 10 am appt with the dr and I'm gonna try to get a different one that won't fuckup like this. Thanks for the birthday wishes.

Yeah TDS would be more appropriate IMO.

Yeah, I think doctors are allowed to write up to 2 refills (maybe different for different states; the '2' may not be accurate) on said schedule IV substances.

I personally receive my Clonazepam prescription with 2 refills attached. 8)

I think it goes by state. As you know im in NY too, and was never able to get a xanax refill, and can't get refills on my valium either. I'm thinking that it goes by state, because other people from the U.S keep saying they get refills on xanax and kpins etc, and I thought it was weird that I was the only one with the problem of having to go every month to the doctor.

Yeah I got a refill on my 1mg Klonopin with no problem. Didn't even ask. Didn't even ask for them to up my dosage either, but they did, but whatever. Good luck with that man. Hope you get your script refilled!

When I come off benzo's I look forward to absolute hell, but for now...it's whatever...:)

Sounds like an honest mistake unless the doctor specifically said "please do not refill this Rx." If so then there must be something you aren't telling us. Benzos can be refilled up to 5 times in 6 months (most docs wouldn't write for this, however).

get yourself some phenazepam as a back up in case anything like this happens again. i actually recommend that to anyone that has to be at a dr's mercy for benzos.

I never knew there were states that didn't allow refills on Schedule IV drugs, that really sucks. Its standard here for them to be written with 2 refills.

Tommy, if paying for doctors visits is a problem for you they might mail you prescriptions. I get scripts mailed to me every month for Schedule II meds, and then I just gotta take the script to the pharmacy. It saves me a lot of money since I don't have to pay for a doctors visit every month.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. My dad is on valium and he has to go back to the doctor for every refill as well...must be a state thing. I asked my doctor because of summer break if she could write me refills, and she said if she could she would but wasn't able to. She was retiring so clearly she wasn't out to get me or make me spend extra money or anything. Plus, I have medical insurance anyway. Thanks Tommy, nice to know that I'm not just getting screwed either haha.

Right now, I get 3mg of Ativan per day + 30mg of temazepam per day. But I've had, at one time, before I consciously began reducing the benzos I took, 2mg xanax/day + 4mg of ativan/day + 60mg of temazepam/day.

I was always able to get refills on mine, even at the height of my use, but I have a relatively good relationship with my psych. Literally, 3-4 months at a time.

Sorry to hear about your birthday man. My doctor will stop my scripts if I drink, so I have to be very careful. I bet the doctor wanted you to come in so he could reduce the dose and explain why, that sort of makes sense. He probably knew that you'd have to come in if he stopped the script, because of the withdrawal that this would precipitate, giving him the perfect opportunity to start reducing your dose. I don't know though, obviously, I'm not in your situation.

I was stabbed on my birthday, but I was prescribed hydromorphone, so it wasn't all bad. ;)

In Illinois benzos can have 6 refills [5 refills not including the pills you would get that day]. I would see my doctor maybe once a year if not longer at times. I would just call the office and boom 6 more refills. It eventually bit me in the ass. Although there were times when I was short or whatnot but I always had another benzo script to fall back on.

That can be a stressful event when things seem to be conspiring against you. Best of luck.

peace.
