Hello everybody, I just found out my daughter is doing heroin, she just stared, what should I do?

Hi Adilson, I am very sorry to hear that--how old is she? Is she still living at home?

Having a child spiral into dangerous use is a very helpless feeling but there is definitely a lot you can do. The first thing that I would suggest is doing everything possible to open the lines of communication between you and your daughter. This might mean anything from face to face conversations to emails (sometimes it's easier when face to face seems to bog down) or even going to therapy together. The second thing I would recommend is reading absolutely everything you can about addiction. There are so many myths out there about drug use and drug abuse and drug addiction. It is vital for you and your daughter to have real information. A very good book to read is In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts by Gabor Mate.

One of the most important things that you can do is to get support for yourself so that you can truly be the best support possible for your daughter. Understanding the difference between supporting and enabling is very difficult and each of us has to define that line for ourselves--when it comes to our children it is exponentially harder. I can see by the fact that you are already seeking information that you are are reaching out for help and that is good. For both you and your daughter, a lack of isolation is important.

Please feel free to start a thread in either Sober Living or The Dark Side for extra support for yourself during the early days of this difficult time. You may also feel free to PM me. My heart goes out to you.<3

Welcome, I'm sorry times are hard and I hope your daughter decides heroin isn't worth it.
