MXE ban in the UK: "'Safe ketamine' referred to drug experts"

hows this one for you

Speaker's wife Sally Bercow has said the Government's plans to ban a so-called legal high made her tempted to try it before it was too late.

Mexxy, which is sold as an alternative to ketamine and has been linked to two deaths, will be banned within days while the Government's drugs advisers consider whether it should be permanently controlled.

Mrs Bercow assured her more than 45,000 followers on Twitter she would not actually buy any, but admitted she was tempted and "now obsessed with the stuff, despite never having heard of it 1/2 hr ago".

"Am I the only one now slightly tempted to try mexxy before it becomes illegal? I won't, obvs," she wrote.

Later, she added: "Oh, the mexxy ban is only 'temporary'. What's that all about? (Am now obsessed with the stuff, despite never having heard of it 1/2 hr ago)."

The high-profile wife of Commons Speaker John Bercow made the comments less than two hours after the temporary ban, which will last for up to 12 months, was announced by the Home Office.

It follows concerns that two people whose bodies were found in Leicestershire in February may have taken some form of the drug after buying it over the internet.

Police warned people not to take mexxy, which was advertised and sold as a safe alternative to the class C drug ketamine, after the bodies of a 59-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man were found in Leicester and Melton Mowbray on February 11 and 12 respectively.

Under the new temporary banning order, anyone caught making, supplying or importing mexxy, or methoxetamine, will face up to 14 years in prison and an unlimited fine under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, the Home Office said.

Crime Prevention Minister Lord Henley said: "Making this drug illegal sends a clear message to users and those making and supplying it that we are stepping up our fight against substances which are dangerous and ruin the lives of victims and their families."

bye bye rc bye bye

Also could they class MXE as it's own drug in the U.S. without it impacting the classification of Ketamine?

Also, what are these two suspect deaths that the article mentions? Edit: Found it http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-17007766

Sounds like a bad batch to me...
That's an interesting question about the effect on ketamine's schedule. I'm sure they'll find a way to make MXE Schedule I and keep ketamine III with some slapdash special clause. When it comes to making sure the populace can't get a hold of new stuff that offers too much life satisfaction with too little gained by the economy or the church there's always a way. Someone in the Legal forum might be able to speak to it.

I'd be very surprised if those two deaths involved only MXE (if it was MXE at all). It took three grams to give the bluelighter "phatass" kidney failure and stick him in a brief coma (on top of high doses of 25C and 2C-P). I could imagine that much killing others or older people (however, the guy in the article was only 32), but it seems unlikely these two people took anywhere near that much. Whatever killed them was serious because it killed BOTH of them (super unlikely with MXE at MCAT doses). The article says they thought it was "MCAT," so they maybe ignorantly bought it as "MKET," confused it, and railed a 100 mg line of it or something. If that happened they'd know pretty quick it wasn't mephedrone so I doubt they would do more. MXE probably potentiated the effects of something else like opiates and booze (or it was a mystery mix containing MXE and some of that Eric shit or something). In any case, tox results take six weeks or more and I doubt we'll ever hear the results. This is probably just deaths tangentially related to MXE being used now to build the case for the ban.

I think bluelight rocks but this site and others like it are pretty much entirely to blame. Methoxetamine is popular clearly seen by the 7 threaded whoppers here on bluelight. They seem to take what is presently most popular in the legal scene and then ban it. Fair on harm reduction and all, but maybe keep it subtle.
There's no doubt the transparency and public accessibility of the internet plays a huge role in the viability of the RC market. But at this point that cat's out of the bag and if all the discussion forums disappeared tomorrow people would still know they can make money off RCs. Without forums or Erowid the info about them would come solely from marketers with a profit motive to misinform. Not to mention "keep it subtle" is a total non-starter when you're talking about millions of people with their own ideas about what should and shouldn't be said. There's just no way that's a plausible way to keep bans from happening.

I will add my 2 euro cents and probably get flamed to death.

Yhe issue here is that, in my very humble opinion is that the UKers are nuts when it comes to drug use, whether it's alcohol, or mxe. The RC market in the UK flourishes like in no other country. People use and abuse it to extremes unseen, and then when everyone is crazy stoned or addicted, the authorities come and ban the stuff. The probable next craze (3-MeO-PCP, my guess) is going on the same path.

I live in a different culture in Europe (a Latin country) and mephedrone is still legal here! and it's used and sold in smart shops. No cases of ODs or fatalities and no news whatsoever. Hell, we even have JWH-018 and similar stuff around! Occasionally the sensationalist press publishes a nasty piece on smart shops, but then they interview the authorities, that say they are watching it closely, but there are no reasons to close them and next day is business as usual... That is how it should be and as MXE has proved to be incredibly safe and no international ban on sight I foresee a long future for it here...

You british people, if you pardon my french, are nuts!

Latest MXE Developments

We thought that the temporary class drug order for MXE may take a few days to process but it seems that its possible to be put into this class within hours!! Therefore we are not taking any more orders for this and all orders already placed are being shipped out immediately!!

i cnt say which uk vendor but this is not good they had the best of the lot its were i all ways got mine from iv just checked another one of the big ones and they have pulled it to guess thats it people

the advisers have presented further evidence that its use can lead to "significant additional toxicity", including agitation, a faster heart rate and higher blood pressure, as well as unsteadiness on the feet.

That's such a ridiculous statement, if those are signs of significant toxicity they should ban excercise, half of human emotions, alcohol, tiredness... If it was something you got on prescription or OTC at the pharmacy it would just say, 'talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking if you have a history of heart problems, or are taking (some other drugs). Do not drive or operate heavy machinery...' on the leaflet. Hell, look at the netdoctor page for zimovane, from 'Warning!' on.

I'm British. And I agree with you!

But the other half of the problem is the tabloid press we have here. They jump on the slightest death-by-misadventure and whip up a hysterical frenzy about it. Does any other country have a newspaper as vile as the Daily Mail?

Who is "they"? There's no intelligible information & ideologies coming from the groups of people which discuss this around the Government Maypole.

Basically it's nature doing insane things with mass society for this current mad-incarnation-cycle-system we're going through. And doing it through small amounts of people... certainly inclined... easily done by preconscious inclinations. Ill-consideration is easy to do by god.

It's absurd. It's horrible - look at how we're all half way to killing ourselves because we have no mephedrone. And without mephedrone how can he ever have the motivation to start the government of young alchemical hot-rods that we all know we could be. Then again - we are just not allowed by nature to be David Cameron when we should be... & if this message allows you to prove me wrong then good stuff

Stuff seems to be going in the legality direction now though...

Like ketamine? It's some sort of magic chemical... it has special stuff going on... unlike anything. Opiate-like also... shame they didn't get to yibber on about that. All the amazing reports written on it on BL & other sites are not going to be indulged in by slobbering coffee-fiends on trains reading metros.

The uk vendor I get it from still has it up, it just says they wont ship to the uk anymore. Theres still hope to get good stuff in the US!

Ithink drug consumption is set to skyrocket.
Possibly this could be favourable to the legalisation case.
Reason - economic crisis with no end in sight.
The whole Marxist forecast.
More people are going to get involved in drugs as relief.
Prohibition will seem ever more harmful and useless.

looking forward to seeing more 3-meo-pcx about the place, maybe even some PCP huh? The govs inane responses to drug use in this country do drive the search for more drugs.
