Sorry, I kind of posted this in the wrong forum initially.....I am reposting the contents here, where it belongs. Also, let me state that I am an experienced L user, although it has been about 10 years since I had any of it.

To start with, I had fasted since 8:30am to prepare myself for the voyage. IMy pal had gotten some St. John's Wort (mild MAOI) from a local store. After driving 2 hours to his house, we got prepared.

At 6:30pm we took 3g of the wort (mild MAOI) and let it settle for 30 minutes, at 7:00 we took the cubensis stems and chopped it fine enough to go into a single piece of bread with a thin layer of peanut butter on it. The caps, we simply slapped some peanut butter on it with a small piece of bittersweet chocolate and munched away. All total, it was 2.5g of dried cubensis each. Washed down with a cup of orange juice, all was well and taste was a non-issue. We thought this amount was not going to be that much, I was expecting a level 3 journey for my first time, although our source said they were "good" and "home grown", not picked from a field.

At T+30 mins, a warmth was felt from within, and colors were getting more vivid....the mind was changing. At T+1:00, visuals were starting to get active, colors were almost flourescent, and we watched the sunset, and the clouds with the orange hue and blue background were something from a dream.

By the time we hit T+1:30, full blown visuals were in effect At T+2:00 we were peaked hard core, and things were not the same. Faces morphed from one second to the next....the carpet became a plasma ocean...things would merge into one another, then come back, then shift into another shape or form. Playing a video game was almost impossible, as the screen would morph, the TV looked like it was part of the wall and the images were a window to another world. This peak lasted right at 3 hours, amazing!!!!

We took a swim in the pool at the peak as well, and that was something out of this world. We floated with closed eyes, and the most rich organic patterns of moving lights and capillaries presented themselves, and I had the feeling of some other presence in my head, like I was being communicated with, not with voice but with lights and patterns, almost like an incredibly detailed Mayan art form. It was like floating in the Void, with no body, only Mind.

I listened to some music on my headphones/mp3 player, (Delerium, awesome Canadian group) and I was in utter bliss, possesed an utter lack of ego, and was reduced to some basic form, as I could hardly understand words, but I knew what it was about. Life, Love, Compassion, and a lack of violence.

After coming down, I laid and integrated some of the events as best I could, and finally drifted off to slumber sometime fter 1:30am.

So all in all, I had an incredible 5 hour experience, one I wish to repeat soon. If some of the people in the world could see what I saw, could feel what I felt, the world would become better for it.

Next journey, I am going with a full 3g of the same source. Bon Voyage!!!

Sounds like a typical mushroom trip to me :)

They do make me feel uncomfortable though... they make me see a better world, full of love, everybody living in harmony... then when I get back to reality it's a let down :(

By the way, St. John's Wort is NOT a mild MAOI. It IS a mild 5-HT reuptake inhibitor , and in that sense it is quite like an SSRI, but it is not an MAOI, and as such will not potentiate your trips. If anything, it'd slightly dampen them!

Even erowid.org shows that the Wort is a mild MAOI, even though it is not strictly an MAOI in the pure technical sense....and I think it MAY have a mild INCREASE on the mushroom, read this from http://sulcus.berkeley.edu/mcb/165_001/papers/manuscripts/_65.html

"Hypericin, the active ingredient of the herb, has both hydrophilic and lipophilic qualities, which make it possible to enter the central nervous system. In the brain, even small amounts of hypericin can have the effects of antidepressants (Bourke 1997). Hypericin inhibits the uptake of serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine, which are molecules associated with feelings of well-being, thus increasing their availability in synapses."

Perhaps next voyage I will forego the wort and try a straight 3g.....what other MAOI's are easily available, i.e., NOT from a prescription, something I could get at a local health food store, etc.?

maybe syrian rue, i dunno im not much for being sedated during a mushroom trip

Exactly....I do not want to be in some deep trance like state of which I have no control over, I want to be able to at least somewhat function on a reasonable level, hence, I hate things like opium, high doses of pain killer, shit like that....

Adding St John's Wort will not produce anything like what adding syrian rue would. Syrian rue is the seeds of the syrian rue plant. You can grind them up finely and make a tea or swallow it in capsules - 3 grams is a typical MAOI dose. Adding a true MAOI like harmaline/harmine (which syrian rue contains) will strongly potentiate the mushrooms, or in fact any psychedelic or other amine. It will also change the trip. Most people say that it makes mushrooms more earthy/grounded and visual, and it for sure lasts a good bit longer and is stronger by the dose.

I've combined them and I recommend it, but only if you're well-experienced with mushrooms alone, and as long as you understand it won't be quite the same experience. I found it to be less energetic than mushrooms alone, but it certainly didn't make me immobile or zombified or anything.

And St. John's Wort may do something to the trip (actually it probably does do something), but it won't be the kind of effect than syrian rue will.
