Columbian cubensis (35g fresh)+3.5gSR - experienced - Wow! What the hell happened?
Voyagers/participants: A and B Date: 28th March 2004
Timeset: 0:25-0:35 (ingestion)
Dose: 35g fresh Columbian Psilocybe Cubensis and 3.5g Syrian rue (peganum harmala) a good source of harmaline which is an active MAOI (mono-amine oxidase-inhibitor) when ingested. The mushrooms were made into a watery drink which consisted of the water we had boiled the mushrooms in for 15 minutes and some blood orange juice for flavour (bloody mushrooms), Syrian rue was place in vegi-caps for which we had to compensate for (ingested Syrian Rue I hour prior to taking the mushrooms.)
Setting: A's room
Mindset: We bought the mushrooms in Amsterdam on a day trip and brought them back with us to England. Having been to Amsterdam for a day trip we were pretty exhausted and I think I will be more careful in having a positive mindset in future as the trip did not go as well as expected.
At 11:10 we promptly took the Syrian rue in order to be able to take the magic chocolate at 0:10. We had eaten at approximately 7:45pm which was a Burger King, in using the mushrooms in the form of liquid they were readily ingested which is an advantage when a large meal has been eaten.
Having taken the Mushrooms we headed up to my room where we lit incense and candles to provide a nice setting. I switched the lava lamp on which had yet to heat up and start melting. I put Enigma on the CD player and we reclined while waiting for the come-up effects. I felt like vomiting so I quickly smoked some cannabis in a small blue glass pipe which I had recently acquired from Amsterdam to dispel the nausea. The period of non-game ecstasy promptly took hold and before we knew we were full blown tripping. In the area in which I had placed my candles a multitude of visuals occurred and my vision kept shifting colours from a green to a blurry red.
As we lay there the room appeared out of proportion and everything I gazed at had an infinite depth to it, as I got up and looked round my perspective changed so drastically and I experimented with this several times. These Columbian mushrooms are pretty good I thought as the room expanded and shrank back to normal. I reached for Transfigurations by Alex Grey and looked at the front cover, the image perplexed into different feelings and emotions and eventually I put the book down and curled into a ball on my bed. The music began to get irritating as it made our brains ask all these complex questions about the multitude of information that was engulfing us. We were both very tired and the trip seemed like it was never going to end. I stared at the candles and a 3-dimensional cliff face started revolving around in front of me as if beckoning me to jump on top, a later vision built upon the same image and morphed into a dragon which moved its head and flapped its wings at this point I had enough and wanted to go to sleep but the mushrooms wouldn’t let me. I began to get extremely frustrated as I wanted to go to sleep, but I soon learnt to suppress these feelings and go along with the experience.
I began smoking more dope and the unhappiness form earlier and completely disappeared and I was elated with joy and happiness, as I smoked my pipe I became extremely attached to it in a way that is hard to explain, the smoke rising from it took on a fabulous colourful pattern with stars rising from the middle. I kept filling bowl after bowl but then for some reason I stopped and began to feel quite discomforted again. As my friend kept playing with a lighter whispering voices emanated from it. I soon came to realise the significance of what I was experiencing, my average, normal everyday perception had been cleansed completely and psilocybin was flowing through my body my vision fragmented into looking at things from a horizontal perspective and a diagonal one which was like looking at my room as if through a broken piece of glass.
As I lay on my bed a gut wrenching pain took hold of my lower abdomen which was extremely unpleasant it was as if one of my organs had fell out of place and it took a while to pass. Slowly my candles went out one by one and we eventually fell into deep sleep around 5/6:00 in the morning.
The name of the concoction we drank “bloody mushrooms” was well deserved it turned out to be not an overly intense trip but a hectic one. Adequate preparation had not been done before hand and in my opinion we took the mushrooms too late. The Syrian Rue should probably not have been taken. This was not as good as the majority of my past experiences but worthwhile nevertheless. I cannot remember half of the experience and I think that having the inappropriate mindset made the trip not half as good as what it could have been.
The visuals were the one good thing from this experience as I cannot say we gained any valuable introspective thoughts which is disappointing; however, it was an interesting experience but I would like to be much more careful in having adequately prepared before hand in future.
