Mushroom picking help & identification...

They don't look like liberty caps or wavy caps to me, so my intuition is to say no, but I'm not 100% (close though). If they don't bruise blue then no.

Anyone think they might have a guess what it is? spores are basically same color as stem maybe a bit lighter

Hi JSPete

The following is in my experience through observation and reading:

Liberty caps grow in unfertilised grassland, usually that which is grazed as rather than cut.

Best spots are the South sides of hills.

Most farmers fields tend to be accessible most of the time, watch out for farmers and bulls - don't get too close to groups of cows. Judge for yourself, but some farmers don't mind you picking** mushrooms and are more happy if you ask permission rather than sneakily 'trespassing'.

Apparently Liberty caps are the strongest psilocybe by size in the world, I have heard that Welsh ones are the strongest but who knows?

Dorling Kindersley's Mushroom book is good for beginners.

I am by no means an expert but have some experience, I live South West-ish but if you fancy organising a mushroom walk then get in touch via PM. I am big into edibles and have a strong general interest in fungi and am not shy to teach people about it so feel free to contact me.

Best of luck and show pictures if you find anything interesting!

P.S. picture on previous post is far too big and blurry to tell what it could be..!!

**Don't worry about cutting mushrooms, just pull them up, no harm will be done to the mycelium or the living organism by pulling them up and it is arguably the most natural way of harvesting them. Some species can only be distinguished by their most basal features.
