Been taking ER morphine for about 7 years now, and I can tell you that chewing them DOES speed up onset, but it still won't "hit" you all at once... it doesn't really defeat the time release, it just increases the surface area so more is being metabolized at once. As far as killing the time release, it really all depends on which brand they are. With Watson Pharmaceutical pills, the time release can be almost entirely beaten by "crisping" them (remove coating with a damp paper towel, dry, crush, then heat the powder in a spoon until light brown) - then you can do what you want with it. That doesn't work for either Mylan or Mallinckrodt. For those - if you're not interested in needles - remove the coating, crush them, mix with water and "plug" the resultant goo (much higher BA as everyone else has already said - you'll get higher than just eating them.) For IV, the aforementioned cold water (colder the better) and NACL method is about the only reliable way, but it's a pain because you only have a limited amount of time after you add the H20 before it gels - 10 or maybe 15 seconds. Takes some coordination and careful prep.
You should be able to find exactly which brand you have by using an online pill identifier (google it). And on a final note - please don't think I'm promoting IV'ing pills (or anything for that matter) - without the use of a .2um (micro meter) wheel filter the danger from undissolved particulates is high, not to mention all the other hazards of IV'ing in general (infection, easy OD, etc). If you've never used a needle, don't start - seriously.
