MRI research finds surprising new data about action of psilocybin

The brains of people tripping on magic mushrooms have given the best picture yet of how psychedelic drugs work and British scientists say the findings suggest such drugs could be used to treat depression.
Hell I'm living proof of that one right now. lol
shroomy ego death sure whipped me right into shape and perked me up real quick.

psilocybin enhanced their recollections of personal memories.
True

psilocybin could be useful as an adjunct to psychotherapy.
Wasn't I just saying this exact thing in the methoxetamine combinations thread where I combined it with mushrooms? Some other mushrooms threads also lately.

this drug has such a fundamental impact on the brain that it's got to be meaningful -- it's got to be telling us something about how the brain works. So we should be studying it and optimizing it if there's a therapeutic benefit."
I did some research the other night hehe

Drugs are freakin' awesome in moderation. Specifically hallucinogens. Where do I sign to be one of the test monkeys in the MRI machine eating shroomies. People need to be studying "evil drugs" a hell of a lot more closely. I would gladly volunteer for this type of research.

Guess I know what to do next time I feel depressed. Thanks for this article.
You're confirming everything I have been saying around here about mushrooms 100%.
They are valuable tools! Even the bad trips are good. You gain introspection about yourself that you can use to better yourself.

Btw, eyes_wide_open... apologies for the topic diversion, but you aren't related to a fella I knew somewhere on the web a few years ago called ThirdEyeOpen are you? I know, long shot... your name makes me think of the GRRREAT David Byrne (of Talking Heads of course) number that is the over-the-top final song from his soundtrack to Twyla Tharpe's The Catherine Wheel ballet... great great great utterly GENIUS stuff... must-hear, especially on shrooms! In fact if you are on shrooms right now I STRONGLY STRONGLY recommend locating a downloadable copy of that CD, putting it LOUD on the stereo speakers (OK phones if there's sleeping peeps around) and taking a VERY VERY marvelous HIGHLY psychedelic trip!!! AND finding the video of same!!!

Be sure to also read the COMMENTS sections of the MSNBC and CNN articles. In and amongst the omnipresent internet idiots there's actually some very good, experienced insight into the pitfalls of antidepressants and advice about depression/panic-attacks in general.

For instance the following which unfortunately seems to be applying more and more to one of my sisters...

jerri-1

I'm more interested in what the current antidepressants do to women. An estimated 10% of mature women are on antidepressants, and the assumption is they will take them the rest of their lives.

They are my peer group, and I've know a lot of them both before and after they went on these drugs. After about a year, I describe them, (as a layman), as being mildly autistic. They lose their sense of empathy, acquire a sense of superiority, and cannot tolerate even the mildest constructive criticism of themselves or even their possessions. And bossy? Way over the top.

Many of them no longer have close friends, and I've seen more than one marriage destroyed by it. I'm watching it happen to my best friend and his wife even as I type. I've tried to talk with her, but she just absolutely can't see it.

It's really sad because while she suffered from panic attacks, which is why she was prescribed these drugs, she used to be a delightful person. Now I won't enter their house except for a short time when absolutely necessary. I don't even go for holidays anymore -- and neither does anyone else. And the way she treats my friend has long since passed into actual abuse.

No sir, no relation. I am a new opened eye.
Will check out your other additions later after my root canal. lol

PS the above descriptions seemingly applies to me in some ways without having ever taken standardized pharmaceutical anti-depression medications. But I do ingest a truckload of weed a year.. something know as being depressing.

i'll have to read this later but after having the worst lsd trip of my life this past weekend, i have honestly never felt better. i can sense love more than ever before and haven't felt sadness in awhile. i feel like a new man.

Yes something about negative trips makes you really value sanity and love and those who care about you. They can be very beneficial.
In that way, we shouldn't fear negative trips, but learn to work with them.
I could benefit from that information alone.
Less fear coming into certain trips would be a great thing for me.
Don't fear it, even if it's bad you'll learn positive things from it.
If you can realize that while on negative trips it could help pull you out too.
