Movie Reviews Part 3 - The good, the bad and the ... rentals

We saw Juno at the cinema; I loved it, Dale thought it was crap: "As if a 16 year old kid would talk like that!".

I can see where he's coming from... the clever writing was the star of the show really, but that's why I enjoyed it. He just thought it pretentious. His favourite scene was where she poured the Slurpee into her stepmum's vase, possibly the only bit of physical comedy in the piece; which shows a slight difference in what tickles our funny bones.

Its a Tarantino thing, there are a few more subtle references to toilets in the film such as honey bunny wanting to "go pee" during the stand off, Mia "powdering her nose" at Jack Rabbit Slims. Butch speaks to Fabiene whilst seated on the toilet and the scene in the following morning Fabiene is brushing her teeth in the bathroom.

Toilets pop up as either a direct references or as a reference to defecating/pissing in Reservoir Dogs, True Romance and Kill Bill.

I cant recall anyone ever confirming this as something he intentionaly does or if its all just coincidence

Ohh, well spotted on the other ones.

Resevoir Dogs and True Romance huh. I will have to check those two out. I'm suddenly interested in Tarantino movies after Pulp Fiction.

I thought it was intentional.
NSFW:
Especially since Vincent alone went to the toilet during very important moments three times in the movie (in Butch's apartment, in the diner and in Mia's house while she snorts that stuff).

I think it is actually a free public announcement on prostate cancer.

Vincent went to Amsterdam for experimental cancer treatment....=D

God damn it. Ever since I heard kittymeow say how good Eternal Sunshine is, I've been wanting to hire it. But each time I go to the video shop it's hired out (they only have one copy and I can't be bothered going to a bigger store.)

I'm going there this afternoon to try again.

Mwahahah :)
Now I hope you really like it. Or its possible you could be one of those freaks that don't ;)
Have you tried reserving it if its still out tonight?

I saw Juno on the weekend too. It was okay. Quirky and cute but not like "holy shit that was awesome". Some funny moments and the acting was pretty good - predictable but not nauseatingly so. 7/10

Also saw Black Sheep - Heheeehee very funny. I loved it. Pretty stupid but I loved how super cheesy it was. 8/10

i accidentally downloaded nicole kidmans first movie "BMX Bandits" under the presumption it was freestyle/vert what have you BMX clips. good for a laugh and not bad over all for an '85 movie. the dialogue was pretty funny

Hi, my names maddog and i dont like eternal sunshine.

Dale will join that group with you and COTB. His reaction at the end? "What the fuck. That was fucking stupid. "

I'm afraid I'm in the other camp.

We have two TV's and two DVD players in our house, for obvious reasons =D

Rated E: So what do you think was in the briefcase?
Pulp Fiction is one of my altime fav's.

There is HEAPS of literature and debate on the net about it. From what I've read I beleive it was

Ooh, I was wondering what was in the brief case...

That's an interesting conclusion by the way.

I know that it let of a gold coloured glow when the guy who was robbing the restaurant looked at it.

It also meant a lot to Marcellus obviously...

I guess I have a reason to watch it again now. :)

If you watch the extras on the Grindhouse DVD's there is an extra where Rodriguez interviews Tarantino and the question of the contents of the brief case come up.

From memory the question gets dropped then Tarantino puts this pained expression on his face, lets out a whiney sigh and says "alright, alright im sick of this question so im just gonna let everyone know. The suitcase has..."

{The image and the audio starts jumping much like it does when your digital TV signal goes all shithouse}

Image and audio come back and pans straight to Rodriguez who exclaims "OMG!!! I cant believe it!" or words to that effect.

I was on the edge of my seat and I bet I wouldn't have been the only one

Tarantino has never said what it is and you would find the reason is because he himself doesnt know. I recall reading an indepth interview in which he discussed influence. He briefly touched upon a concept where in old noir films they would rely on innuendo and suggestion much more than the explicit hand holding method of stroy telling. QT rounded it off by saying something along the lines of a "just showing a glow and letting the audience make up there own mind is better than just ruining everything by way of definition"

hahahaha

That's classic (the "alright I'll tell you *fades out*" thing.)

I guess it's not really important what it is. Though I'll be on the lookout for clues next time I watch it.

Had you not seen any Tarantino before Pulp Fiction Rated E?

All his movies kick arse for various reasons.

As for the brief case it's obvious that it was just supposed to make people talk about it. Tarantino doesn't know because he never thought of something to be in there. Oh I see eggman addressed that, oh well :)

It's like I was reading an interview with the guy who did Donnie Darko and he said there wasn't any answers to most of the questions people have about the film. He just made it that way to make people think. That really pissed me off, because I'm a need to know kind of guy. And knowing there is no answers doesn't make the friggin' questions go away!

I watched both of the Kill Bill movies when they first came out, and loved them.

However for some reason I never chased up any more Tarantino films.

Out of the rest I think Jackie Brown is my favourite. But True Romance and Reservoir Dogs both have their moments.

Have they started studying Pulp Fiction in Year 12 English yet? If not, it'll only be a few years before kids are answering the question of what's in the briefcase as part of their VCE/HSC English Exam.

My favorite Tarantino is Kill Bill I & II.

I never really pondered it. Is that weird?
Ive always been happy with the suitcase containing 'something valuable' and left it as a concept

Just watched Stardust, was really impressed, i loved the enchanted feel of it all. Just wish they had made the movie longer.

And also got I

Huckabees. Had a few people tell me i HAVE to watch it. Peer pressure :|

I've gotten into the habit of savouring movies. I'll watch 1/3 one day, then watch another 3rd on a another day etc etc. I did it with the bourne ultimatum because i loved the movies so much i didn't want it to end.
