im currently taking 5mg of zyprexa but i dont like its long half life. i dont wanna be effected during the day.
i use it primary for insomnia & to try to lower mild pychotic symptoms.

for those who have tried various APs which has worked the most for u?

I also used to take seroquel but according the wikipedia low doses arnt reccomended for some some realse (<150mg)
it sure did work well for insomnia & unlike zyprexa it kicks in fast.

I dont think i can stop taking them because they do slightly help me.

im just wondering what other ppl have had success with?
I want something that keeps me asleep & dos leave me feeling to hungover the next day

I took seroquel and zyprexa and both turned me into a nonraging zombie. Get it? Nonraging zombie? lol I'm an idiot.

But really seroquel seemed a bit cleaner and although I was zombie for most the day on it zyprexa was far worse at much lower amounts. And I think I remember myself being a bit more social on seroquel. Have never taking another antipsychotic though something tells me all of them sedate the living shit out of you. As I'd imagine its the overwhelming sedation that stops most psychotic thoughts in the first place.

everyone is different and every anti-psychotics effects us all differently. 11 years after being diagnosed Bipolar 1, have tried them all. I have an amazing psychiatrist who listens to me when I say that a certain medication(especially an anti-psychotic) isn't working and we have changed my cocktail throughout these years. Personally,I hate Zyprexa and take it only when I am "high"-full blown delusional manic. It happens-emotional triggers, seasonal mania-when I get to that point-I have no choice but to take 5mgs Zyprexa or be committed and subjected to Haldol or the "Thorazine Shuffle".
However, these episodes are lessened when I am on Seroquel-but like most,I hate the zombie effect that goes with IR Seroquel.
Having said that- Seroquel XR is like a gift from the Goddess of Crazy Bitches. The 1st 2/3 days I feel sleepy but only for a short while. I am awake and lucid within 3 or 4 hours. After I have been on it a few days there is no lethargy whatsoever. I love it. If you have not talked to your Doctor about extended release Seroquel,I urge you to do so. It has truly had a noticeable, positive impact on my moods.
Just my 2 cents...hope this helps someone.

Much peace and love.................skillz <3

Am i the only one here that actually finds zyprexa to have the least amount of side effects? I only take it as needed since i can't afford to take it everyday and the zydis form works the best but i am lucky if i can afford the pills. Seroquel takes a good week to help my mania and risperidone has a lot of side effects once you get over 2mg's a day and is the worst one for causing the zombie effect. Risperdal does not cause much drowsiness it just makes you feel like a zombie if you get hit with that effect. Although when I'm manic i have taken 4mg's a day of risperdal with not much side effects.

This just goes to show that everyone is different when it comes to how drugs effect them. I can take 20mg's of zyprexa and it will just make me feel normal but obviously that's not the case with everyone or even most.

yeah i think i like zyprexa better than seroquel. jsut dont like its long half-life.
zyprexa is also effexcted by smoking where seroquel isnt. i dont get weird visuals on zyprexa like i do on seroquel either

seroquel kicks in alot quicker. zyprexa takes like 5 hrs to peak i think

i actually just had a hand full of valium & i can tell u no benzos will put me to sleep (unless im taking like an insane amount of xanax or something).i think i still need APs.

Anon54, it really is a personal choice. Different antipsychotics have different strengths and weaknesses (eg some are more sedating, some have a higher cardiovascular risk but lower movement-disorder risk, some are the other way round, etc) and really you need to have a full psychiatric and medical history taken by a psychiatrist, then have an open and honest discussion about what you want to get out of your antipsychotic and what side effects you are prepared to tolerate. And then be prepared to maybe have to try a few to find the one that suits you best (although this definitely isn't always necessary).

Judging by your thread in BDD and what you have said here, you're after an antipsychotic to be used off-label to sleep far more than for it's antipsychotic properties. Again, this is really something to discuss with your doctor..

Getting opinions is all well and good, but it is just that - opinions, and everyone reacts differently.

Speak to your doctor, and good luck finding the right medication for you!

Far back as I remember the only anti-psychotic that I've taken is Truxal, chemical name cloorprotixeen. This actualy helped during my still lasting chronic stress shithole syndrome. And especially during my manic states, just made me feel more or less normal not zombified by any means. The 2 doses I had were actually given to me by a friend who was in rehab. Because comparisons with other antypsychotics is impossible I will compare it with other things i know.

They didnt sedate me like benzos do, which i hate, and left my emotions intact. They promoted sleep without forcing it. Hope this info helped!
