Most Common Psilocybin Mushroom Strain?

Hey BlueLight,

I'll be experimenting with psilocybin mushrooms for the first time in a couple of weeks with a handful of friends, but unfortunately my sources don't have a clue as to what strain of mushrooms they have. I figured my only option at the moment is to dose as if the strain I have is in fact the most common strain found. I'm quite experienced with other psychedelics, such as LSD, 2C-B, and mescaline, and I'm open to being in a deep psychedelic state. A few of my friends, on the other hand, have no experience with being in a deep psychedelic state of mind, so I'd like for them to not have an overwhelming trip for their first. I'll be doing what I can, with the help of a more experienced friend, to provide my other friends with the most comfortable first trip. The setting will be phenomenal as we'll be in a lodge near the rocky mountains, which I'm excited for.

Thank you.

You really only get psilocybe cubensis where I live (western Canada) but I've never picked and I'd imagine nearly all which are sold on the black market would be home grown
I'd imagine in warmer climates it would be different, say south/central america

Well, that's nice to hear as I also live in western Canada. I'm hoping for more replies, but yours helps a lot, so thank you.

Did he pick them or grown them? If they're quite big they'll be cubensis, they could also be liberty caps if he's picked them which are a lot thinner with less mass.

If he's that clueless I'd be a bit wary tho - particularly if he's picked them. He could have picked the wrong sort and kill you all.

Zalo; I don't know how far west you are. They might be capable of growing a few places on Vancouver Island at the moment. I'm out in western Canada as well, but it's kinda frozen right now :).

If they're cultured, then they most likely be cubes.

Strength? I've grown my own there were m'eh, and then I've produced some that had me see the birth of rainbows.

Whether picked wild or cultivated, they should be crispy cracker dry. A tell tale sign of cultivated cubes is little bits of vermiculite.

Assume that they are cubes. And my disclaimer is 'don't blame me if you die'.

Complete mushroom/psychedelic virgin: 2/3g - 1.5g
Have had mushrooms/other psychs before: 1.5g - 3.5g

There's no need to go higher unless one has personally sampled the batch, knows they aren't poisonous and has previously consumed higher doses.

And please, have someone sober who could transport people to the hospital.

Tom

You might wanna check photo ID'ing with the Shroomery website / message board. We don't allow mushroom ID'ing here but it is definitely worth differentiating between Cubensis, woodlovers and liberty cap type mushrooms. The primary question to me seems: if the identity of the mushrooms is unknown then how do you know they are psilocybin-containing shrooms at all?

Agreed: within the realm of psilocybian mushrooms the most typical kind would be the cultivated ones which are Cubensis most of the time. There is some slight variance but that translates mostly towards tendency to produce either few big fruits or many small fruits. Penis Envy strain is an example of an exception, which would significantly be of higher average potency..

Zalo please elaborate so that we are clear on the situation :)

I'm in Alberta near the rockies. It's as west as I can be without being in BC. Assuming it is cubensis, I'll probably be dosing 2.25g-2.5g, and giving my less experienced friends a maximum of 2g.

I unfortunately do not know if the mushrooms contain psilocybin. For some odd reason I had just assumed that finding legitimate psilocybin mushrooms would be easier than trying to find legitimate MDMA/LSD, and also more likely to be the real thing. I currently have a few sources, one source being a friend who's actually tripped off of the mushrooms that he had acquired. I'm generally overly cautious with substances, so I'm not entirely sure why I chose to remain ignorant of potential hazards with mushrooms. Perhaps it's because it's not synthetic. Anyways, I'll be doing more research as that's my usual ritual before taking any new substance. Will Ehrlich's reagent test for psilocybin since it's an indole?

Well yes, but I am not sure if that will be conclusive since mushrooms may contain all sorts of basic tryptamines and indoles, still that wouldn't necessarily make them psychoactive. Like I said: do a visual ID check at the shroomery and be skeptical / careful in general. Use your common sense, other than that I don't know what can be done.
