Moshing at dance events - what do you reckon?

And that's where you're wrong, "cunt". It's not about whether I don't want to take part, moshers take up a MASSIVE SPACE and tend to overflow into the crowd around them, who are all wearing the same "for fuck sakes.." expression on their face.

This isn't about whether people have, or haven't tried moshing. Moshing pisses off more people than it pleases, so kindly fuck off.

Well I have been to many a festival/event where moshing has taken place, maybe you are correct for indoor events with limited space... But in an outdoor event with plenty of space who cares how much room we take up?
And I call bullshit on your point that it pisses more people off than it pleases, because I know from experiance that most people enjoy watching the mosh pits and pushing people back in and joining in themselves...
Although I agree with that if space is limited you may be right, but at the end of the day, your still a cunt.

I think it's stupid when people get all uptight and say "You can't mosh to this music!". Well, why not? It's a form of expression. Isn't the whole idea of a rave to be totally accepted for whoever, and whatever you may be? So fuck it! Express yourself! As long as you're not directly hurting someone, I fail to see why not. If somebody wants to mosh to a dubstep song, as retarded as it may seem let them cause it's all about expressing yourself.

Well said, I couldn't agree more :)

Unnecessary.. no need to argue with harsh language. Points are better made without the use of swearing..

I see moshing occasionally at EDM shows, particularily "hard" dubstep shows, but never at most other dubstep or DnB shows. I think that if the music is more hard, or angry, there's bound to be a bit of moshing occurring. Think of hardcore, breakcore.. all those kind of genres are very full of energy and would definitely get people going. Brostep too, since it's a really aggressive form of dubstep.

I don't mind it myself, people can do as they wish, so long as I don't get dragged into it unwillingly. Moshers should try and be respectful of other dancers, we all want to be able to enjoy ourselves, not just one group. And if it gets out of control, it should probably be stopped, in case others accidently get hurt. You know the saying, it's all fun and games..

Note: I used the word "cunt" to highlight that nolys had decided to refer to me and some others as "cunts" and "motherfuckers" in his previous post.

I get it the self expression part, kind of, if two people happen to both want to express their feeling about the music by moshing with eachother, that might work in a big space or an outdoor event where it doesn't need bother anyone else, but indoor events where there's no room anyway, and people decide to pisses me off. It stops me from how im expressing myself.

I was at a Secret Chiefs 3 show at a small club in Chicago and there were people moshing like crazy (and this was not moshing music at all!). It always seems to start with some dumb drunk fucking asshole who just wants to "touch" other people. So then he provoked other drunk idiots to do the same thing. Pretty soon it was a room full of dudes who seemed to just want to get up on each other. (I'm not gay bashing or anything I just tell it like I see it). The reason why I bring that up is because there is a time and a place for everything and just cause the music is heavy dosen't mean you need to push and shove and be a dick to everyone around you. Fast forward a few months and I saw Mimosa at Wicker Park fest. I was very close to the stage and again some dumb drunk punk tried to start a mosh pit. Everyone around him was not having it and after several attempts to get him to stop they called in the security guard who told him to chill. So what happens he keeps it up and eventually the guard jumps into the crowd and throws his ass out. With everyone cheering behind him as he was being hauled off. It seems to me that moshing stars with a few idiots pushing/getting in the way of people that don't want to be in the pit, so they push back to get away thus adding fuel to the fire. Just cause it's heavy doesn't give you the excuse to be a dick. Stop invading peoples space if they don't want you in it. Fucking moshers!!!

just went to a 12th planet/ kill the noise/ flinch/ kastle show - i must say ive never seen a mosh at a bass event until now - during kill the noise it was intense there was kids going BUCK WILD i thought there was a fight going on almost it was so ruff looking - my opinion is its wack and doesnt need to be done - tbh im sure if the crowd was 21+ this wouldnt have happened. it was an 18+ show and that brings all kinds of ignorance !

Thank you! I rest my case!

My experience of moshing is that it's a student/emo thing. You try that knocking into people at local DnB nights round here and it wont just be the sub bass hitting you.
DnB crowd around here consists of an older and much more mature crowd who are respectful but yet can go absolutely nuts at the same time. But it's all in good fun, everyone is enjoying themselves together. Seems like the younger crowd that frequent heavy dubstep shows are the moshers. Not to stereotype, but..

I went to a jump up dnb night on friday night and there was plenty of moshing going on in the crowd, getting stuck in that whilst coming up on copious amounts of md was an interesting (and vomit inducing) experience!

I kinda dislike moshing, esp at EDM shit. And especially dislike when you get clotheslined and thrown to the ground for moshing at screamo warped tour concerts, where people SHOULD be moshing. Still, moshing might be rather fun if you were all fucked up and puking on everybody else in the pit of mosh, LOL

If I am out anywhere and they start playing dubstep i now leave instantly for this reason. Last time i was out and they started playing dubstep i almost got into about 5 fights within 5 seconds from absolute fucking idiots jumping and barging in to me

ya, 2nd time i encountered moshing with electronic was at a dub step show. it was pissing me off cause i was trying to pop/lock and tut and fools kept ramming into me. so i was like fuck it, had a flashback to my punk rock days and started bouncinging up and down and all around everyone at the pit. everyone kinda stopped after that :).... :(

i don't think they realize they can spazz out without messing with everyone else's good time.

Just turn it into a hardcore pit, windmills and shit. That will discourage most people once they see that’s what’s up.

That moshing bullshit started happening once dubstep got super mainstream AKA "popular". Where any random non-raver would show up to parties... anyways I hate dub now so I don't have to worry about that.

I used to mosh back in the day at metal shows, but I'm too old for that shit and I don't see the point really these days.

I remember being at a COBHC show and reading the Bob Marley quote on the pack of papers I had "The best thing about music is when it hits you you feel no pain", and then I went to mosh and that shit was brutal and hurt.

Dancing FTW :)

I chuckle at the people who try to turn this into a badass competition - that seems to happen a lot on Bluelight. "Show em some fistcore trip dance fight dance circling, that'll shut em up".

Anyway, I'm pleased the general consensus is that moshing at electronic music events bothers more people than it pleases - just as I thought.
