Ok I need some advice on morphine withdraws. I'm cold but sweating, then burning up. I'm having like the flu symptons. Started last night and I wanted to know what can eaase the withdraws? Or if even if this is withdraws? Is it withdraws?(probably a stupid question) And how long will it last? Last thing what can ease it? I have xanax or should i just take another morphine to see if that will take the symptons away.

^Tapering certainly can help. What dose were you on and for how long?

Flu like symptoms certainly sound like withdrawal.. I'm honestly not sure how long it lasts I'm afraid.

If you feel anxious or agitated then Xanax could help in the short term, but be very careful you don't swap one addiction for another..

Loperamie can help with a lot of side effects - it is an opioid like morphine but it can't cross the blood-brain barrier. It is especially good for GI symptons such as diarrhoea.

If you can't sleep, a benzo would help (Xanax might work but is not the best for sleep, something hypnotic like temazepam/nitrazepam or even a sedating anxiolytic like diazepam would be better) but be very careful. Sedating first-generation antihistamines like diphenhydramine (Benadryl, if you live in the US/Canada) or promethazine (OTC in the UK) can help as well but only take the recommended dose or you might have delirium to contend with as well as withdrawals!

Simple pain killers and anti-pyretics (lower your temp if you have a fever) might help a little - APAP or a NSAID such as ibuprofen.

Other than that, keep yourself well-hydrated.. eat if you can, sleep as much as you can, rest and make yourself comfy. Distracting yourself with something like TV/film/computer games, reading or music could help too.

Good luck!

You failed to mention how you take your Morphine. Just orally? Or no? Thats why I ask and don't assume... If you IV'd your Morphine you could very possibly be experiencing 'cotton-fever' from your cotton filter (if you used one). Fill us in some more like effie asked, what dose, how long, what ROA?...

I take it orally, and I have been on Morphine E.R. for almst a year in a half. Started off 15mg then up to 30mg then up to 45mg then 60mg then to 90mg and now am on 100mg extended release for about a month now. I stopped taken them yesterday cause I just got fed up with always being on all these meds, and started to feel this way last night. And it just got worse today. I'm just soooo tired of the chronic pain and having to take these handfuls of meds everyday. I know it was probably stupid to just quit taken them cold, but you jut get to that certain point of just being fed up doing the same thing over and over EVERYDAY.

Ohhh thats right, you were the one asking about the ER coating on your pills, right? Also, no, its never a good idea to just 'quit' cold turkey if you don't have to. If you have a choice, be glad you do and use it to your advantage. Feel fortunate because you have a doctor to turn to and you should utilize him/her for this problem. They can decide whats best for you, we here at BL can only tell you our opinions, and my opinion is for you to go talk to your doctor about the situation, if he or she is competent at all they will understand and be able to either put you on something different or start a taper-down in your dosage to avoid what you're going through now. If they don't want to listen, find a doctor that will. As for now, the best way to make the WDs go away is to resume taking your Morphine as you normally would. Good luck, I hope you get to feeling better soon! :D

Yes that was me and I do appreciate all the great opinions givin, but at first I loved the feeling it gave me taken it but now it just seem like a chore to take it. I voiced my opinion to my doc last month and he took me off of the percocets 10/325 and the 90mg e.r. morphine and put me on oxycodone 15mg and 100mg morphine. I said it before I would give my left nut to be off of painkillers and never to be in any pain at all. I mean I can handle mild to moderate pain, but to be in extreme pain from the time I wake up to the time I go to sleep. And sometimes I can't even go to sleep. Thats why I asked about the coating was wanting a faster result. Instead of just waiting for the extended release to kick in.

There are always other options, if your doc tells you theres not, tell him to goto hell and find you a doctor that understands chronic pain. It seems your particular doctor is just doing the pain pill-shuffle with your prescriptions. Percocet an Morphine ER to Oxycodone 15 and Morphine ER tells me that A.) he doesn't understand shit about chronic pain and opiate medications, or B.) He doesn't give a damn about you and would rather throw you out with a prescription rather than listen to you.

That sounds about right. I think 1st thing in the morning I am going to hunt for a new doctor. Who will listen and try to understand what I am going thru. Thank You DelRi0 For the advice. I soooo appreciate it. And Thank You everyone else also.

You're very welcome. Anytime bud. Check back and let us know how things are going if you'd like. ;)

Delri0 has given you some sound advice here. I'm a little shocked your doctor upped the dose of the same drugs you voiced concerns about wanting to be off of. Some doctors understand opioid rotation and others (seemingly) do not.

Rotation of your meds won't solve all of your problems, the main one being that you'll still have to take medications to treat your chronic pain. But it may clear up some of the drawbacks that come with being on the same narcotics for extended periods, especially morphine. It is (of course) your right to seek a new doctor/second opinion, and I don't think it's terrible advice either.

Until you get in to see the doctor, take your meds. No need to pointlessly suffer, right? You could of course try taking less morphine. You may be a little uncomfortable until your body gets used to the new dosage of morphine but of course it won't hurt to supplement with oxycodone for the time being, either.

Sadly pain management is shitty. I hate having to take more pills than a 80 year old. The reality is I AM in pain all day every day. Definatly talk to your doctor, but unless a miracle happens your pain most likely will not stop.

Well i talked to the doc awhile back and sent me to some specialist and was told need a whole new back, and it was too much for them to do and the results maybe worse. So pretty much im SCREWED with the pills

From the sounds of it you are going to be on pain medication or in pain for the rest of your life. If I was you I would devote my energy into finding a med combination that controlls your pain and minimizes whatever side effects your trying to avoid. If your fed up with handfuls of pills talkt to your doc about fentanyl patches they can last up to 3 days so that might be something to think about. Anyway I hope it works out for you.
