Morphine & st john's wort

Can i take st john's wort with my Morphine? The side effects of st john's wort says it can prolong the effects of opiates. So i am thinking i can get more bang for my buck. I know a little bit about "Serotonin syndrome" & "serotonin toxicity" ..but i never have taken st john's wort, and do not have a build up of the stuff in my system. I can take around 300mg ms contin with no problem. So is it safe to try like 90mg ms contin and 300 mg st john's wort to Potentiate the cns effects of my morphine and make it last longer? I don't plan on doing this all the time just thought it would be nice to do once in a blue moon. Has anyone tried st john's wort to Potentiate another drug? Just sounds to good not to try. Any help would be KooL ;)
 
st. johns wort prolongs the effects of opiates? I never knew this.

I'd say if normally you take 300mg of morphine, that a drop to 90mg of morphine then it could be ok to try it once and mix it, but I don't know the dosages and dont know how much 300mg is. I'd say take maybe the normal amount or double the normal amount.

oh, and do you do your morphine orally or IV?

oh wow, now I need to come up for a reason for needing this so I can get my parents to get it for me since I'm having to rely on them during my whole cancer shit.

what is st. johns wort used for normally?
 
st. johns wort is mainly used for depression. Remember it can be Very Dangerous when mixed with other drugs from what i am reading so far..!! I just found this tid bit here:

I am looking for people who have actually used "St. John's Wort" to Potentiate Opiates to get some feedback, and if it is a good idea?? So be careful TokinDerrick ..we need some more users to chime in with experiance.
 
oh, so its a MAOI? I have heard that its bad to mix that with some things. not sure about opiates. but I take morphine, and if can make it last longer that'd be great, because I'm running out like 2 weeks early all the time. luckily, I'm on a schedule where I get my IR's in the beginning of month, and CR's in middle, but theres still a few days of withdrawals inbetween each one. sucks.
 
st. johns wort may be an maoi. it has not been proven and if it is it must be a very weak one. also, st. johns wort is a liver enzyme INDUCER, not INHIBITOR. that means it increases the drugs(opiates) clearance and reduces their half-life and bioavailability(it also does this to benzos).

So you are saying it is bad/toxic to your liver?? When these two are mixed?
Hope you come back and let me know exactly what you are talking about and where your info is comming from. Not that i don't believe you ..just wish you would of elaborated more. Thx for the reply ..Rx ;)
 
its not bad for your liver, it just reduces the effects of opiates(and benzos and a bunch of other drugs). st. johns wort does the opposite of what grapefruit juice does.
 
oh, so I don't want it if its gonna reduce my goodies.

but the grapefruit juice only works with benzo's, mostly valium and xanax. this doesn't work with opiates.

Then why does it say under side effects:
