Morphine may help with post-traumatic stress, research finds

I think more the interesting part of these articles, aside from the obvious reduction of stigma over prescribing drugs, is the fact that medical authorities are now "looking outside the box" with regards to possible treatments that could be developed from these findings. Like, I enjoy the antidepressive effects of ketamine, but I don't exactly like having to sniff powder or stick myself when I want a mood lift. Likewise for morphine or anything addictive that is shown to have psychological benefits. Give me the NMDA blocker without psychoactive effects and save the ket and oxy for special occasions, mmmmm sounds good to me ;)

Hmmm, I wonder how this affects addiction and recovery for opiate addicts? Based on what I'm reading here, it wouldn't be out of left field to hypothesize that because of this opiate addicts are more likely to relapse.

The life of an opiate addict, especially a "low rung" heroin addict on the street, consists of prostituting, stealing, going through withdrawal, and many other stressful and traumatic experiences. These would certainly leave an impact on anyone, but according to this, the blow of all these things are blunted due to the very drug they are using! So, it would make sense that relapse would be more common.
