Hello! This question is in regards for PAIN RELIEF and not in any way, shape, or form asked in any association with regards to get high or feel euphoria.
Last summer of 2010 when I was 19, I fractured my lower back in 3 places having sustained 3 compressed fractures. I am now 20 and as of this date still not healed.
After going through a process of "trial-and-error," I now see a family physician in which actually helps me without discriminating me for my age (19 then, now 20) and/or my gender (male), and prescribes me pain killers in which are pretty much negotiable.
I am presently prescribed 120 Roxycodone 30mg to take 4x per day. This has been working for months fine but I still think I need some sort of extended-release medication. We've tried OxyContin and MS-Contin. OxyContin worked well until they honestly switched it to the "OP" brand and for some reason I honestly don't get the pain relief that I used to and am skeptical of requesting that my doctor bump it up.
I am now back on MS-Contin for ER but he, for some reason, prescribed me only 15mg this time, and AFAIK Morphine is 1.5x weaker than Oxycodone. This is the first time that I have used Oxycodone and Morphine in combination for my pain and I honestly say that it has WORKED by far the best so far; the only problem is that I'm prescribed 15mg MS-Contin.
1.) So I am planning my next doctor appointment already and want to know what mg MS-Contin would equal 30mg Oxycodone? Is it 45mg? I see that there are 15mg, 30mg, and then 60mg and higher doses of MS-Contin available, so how should I go about telling my doctor that I would like to get MS-Contin to take twice a day? Like, I want a dose that is equivalent to my 30mg Roxicodone so I can have the MS-Contin 2x a day for extended pain relief and the 30mg Roxicodone obviously throughout the day for instant pain relief. I've honestly been running out of my pain meds too quickly due to no extended pain reliever.
2. ) My concern is asking for such a drastic increase to 60mg for MS-Contin, but there is no 45mg version. Also, I've been on 30mg MS-Contin before so I don't even know why I was only put on 15mg MS-Contin.
3.) Also, while I am at it, I really want to know: in comparison, does Morphine affect different opiate receptors than Oxycodone? I've heard that before, so is this true and why the combination of Morphine and Oxycodone is helping my pain much more than just Oxycodone alone?
4.) And also, how much mg of Oxycodone does 60mg of MS-Contin equal to?
5.) And, also also, I don't want to see like I'm med seeking, so should I talk to him about 60mg MS-Contin twice a day, or should I ask for 30mg MS-Contin to take twice a day but for a quantity of 90 of them so that I can take 1 and a half two times a day? Could I do that and could a doctor technically prescribe like that, ie where the prescription bottle would say take one and a half pills twice a day as needed? Or should I ask him to prescribe 60 30mg and 60 15mg MS-Contin to take 1 of each twice a day? All I really need is a 45mg dose if 45mg of MS-Contin is equal to 30mg of Oxycodone?
6.) Then again though, should I aim for 60mg MS-Contin because I understand it would be equivalent higher but would that make it last longer such as an actual 8 hours? I am asking because most people I know that has extended release and instant release pain medication, they usually have the higher miligram for the extended release and lesser for instant.
