I couldn't wait for school to end on friday. It was finally happening, the highlight of my year: Groezrock! One of the biggest punkrock and hardcore festivals in Europe, all at a 20 minute drive from my home. With my stuff packed, we went to pick up my girlfriend and drove to this exhibition I had to go to first since we had an exchange project with foreign students that week and we had to show our projects. Anyways, after the exhibition was FINALLY over, they drove me to the campsite. Loaded with a sleeping bag, food and lots of beer, I kissed my girlfriend and headed out to find my friends, and ofcourse, munch on those truffles. Note: for those who don't know what truffles are, it's some sort of mushroom (except they grow underground) that you can buy legally in smartshops in Holland.
I arrived at the tent where we were sleeping. We were with 6 people. I'll only talk about K, S and M because the others aren't really relevant. K and M had already consumed theirs so I decided to quickly eat mine too so we could be 'on the same level'. They had some left over so I decided to eat that too since I was feeling pretty good. It was cold and wet but nothing could get in the way of my vibe because I was so ready for the festival. I hadn't eaten that much so I quickly started getting giggly. We tried rolling a joint but it took us like 20 minutes because we were constantly distracted and laughing. I decided to go pee. When I got up I felt the bodyload, it was pretty hard to walk straight for the first few meters. I took my piss and when I was walking back to the tent, I saw K and another friend. I instantly laughed because K was looking at this tree that looked similar like the willow in the first harry potter movie. We decided to walk towards it and examine it closely. The tree had something mystal and ancient and in my head I heard this epic, age of empires kind of sound. The branches looked like they were breathing. Because of all the examining, we lost our friends and just decided to go for a walk around the campsite. We both agreed that the visuals were pretty intense so we decided to take it as slow as possible to take a good look at everything (we ended up walking 2 hrs over a distance of less than 500 meters).
There was a really big light somewhere in the campsite and it made the grass look so vivid and bright green. The grass also looked longer. I was pretty 'WOW'ed by it. As we were approaching the light, we both thought that it did not feel good to get any closer so we decided to go to a different direction on one of the 'crossroads'. After this we were convinced that we were lost, which ended in laughter (again). I guess we had been walking for atleast an hour or more, and K was still holding the joint that we were struggling to roll earlier. Since our lighters were lost, we had to ask people for a light but I was having a hard time giggling so speaking wasn't easy. I also noticed that my social skills were not what they used to be. I either took everything way too serious or not serious at all.
We saw a cigarette stand and decided to go for some smokes and a lighter. We bought some and continued our quest roaming the campsite. Atleast that's what it felt like. After 1 minute (= approximately 5 meters of walking), K had already lost his cigarettes so he went to buy another pack. Those guys must have thought we were crazy, I could see it from the look on their faces.
From here on, I could remember where our tent was at. We continued our journey and talked about some stuff. We both agreed that humans are weird as fuck. Punkers with mohawks, passed out people, tattood straight edgers, we'd seen it all. I felt like I was exactly in the right place but also the complete opposite. It probably felt right because I love punkrock and worse because everyone was drunk and stoned and we were on psychedelics. Yep, that's probably it.
We arrived at our tent. It felt like we'd been travelling for hours and hours, maybe even days. We decided to lay down. I couldn't close my sleeping bag because I had to do something with the zip but I couldn't wrap my head around it. From this point on, I decided to close my eyes and dig deep in my fantasy. With the punkrock that our neighbor Germans were playing, I was flying all over the place in my head. I was having some difficult thoughts and thought loops but I knew that I wasn't supposed to fight it, so I didn't and just thought and thought and thought... I realized, like in my first truffles trip, that I have a lot to be grateful for in my life. It's something that I'm supposed to respect and especially, use.
Some time after my friend and I were laying in our tent, our non-tripping, drunk friend arrived (I'll call him S). From the second he got into the tent, It felt like my trip was over. I was content and a bit sad because I had such a good time. We talked for a bit and I asked where our friend M (who was also tripping, remember?) was it. S told us that he was in some party tent with punkrock music having the time of his life. That was a big relief because, although he's the most experienced tripper of us all, I was a tiny bit worried because we hadn't heard of him. Some time later, M also arrived. I had a beer and a joint with him and I decided to go to bed. I was happy and tired.
The next day I woke up with the biggest smile possible, because groezrock had started and I was going to see streetlight manifestso (an awesome ska band) to dance my ass off!
I know it's a very lighthearted trip report, but It's something different from all the heavier stuff you read here. Thanks for reading!
