Then you may have "?" condition. Talk to your pusher, I mean doctor today!

I'm in full support of what you said, but if that happens - then there has to be proper education in highschool about mental health and other illnesses.
 
Not to repeat what most of you have already said, but I also belive that proper diet (low sugars and NO CAFFEINE) as well as daily exercise (sign up your kid for ANY team sport) would have a huge impact on these kids that supposedly have ADHD.

But hey , putting your kid infront of xbox and feeding him chips and coke is much easier, isn't it ?

it sickens me that the same people who feed their children legal amphetamines, tell them that drugs are evil, send them to rehab for smoking pot etc. the world has gone mad i guess (the USA at least ;) )
 
I just quickly glanced over the replies to this depressing article but one thing I didn't see was parents abusing their own childs amps.

I mean, I daily see a woman who keeps up her sons script for adderall taking them all the time. I know for a fact her son does not take them anymore. It's sick. To think that some of these parent would bring their child to the doctor to get meds for themselves. And what, these kids are fuckin 7-14?!?! How scared must they be!

Mom: Oh son, you didn't do so well in school this term, and your always full of energy, even when I give you your videogames! Something must be wrong with you, I'm taking you to the doctor.

Yes, some kids need it. But c'mon! Both the parents of these children and the doctors are to blame for this, not one or the other.

the fact that caffiene is part of most children's diet from a young age (or even before birth) can't be related to the fact that later in life so many have difficulty concentrating without the aid of high power stimulants ;)
 
its more depressing then you guys think, 80-90% of people diagnosed with add are boys, so double those percentages and you have a closer statistic as to how many kids are actually given this shit.
 
shit guys i agree with you 100%...i myself ( a 16 year old kid) walked into the doctors office and they asked me 6 questions YES!!! 6 and they determined from that i have ADD and prescribed me adderall after a fuckn 20min "consultation", now be it i got them to help me study and for SATs and things so i might take 1 20mg pill a month tops

The difference is, back in the good ol' days before Ritalin came out in the 50's, the treatment was a dunce cap.

ADHD sucks. If it was made up, I'd love that. It's not a disorder of symptoms present, but a disorder of symptom SEVERITY.

Everyone has ADHD symptoms. The question is: Does it affect your daily life to the point where you'll basically lose you job, fail out of school, not become the greatest programmer or artist or poet or writer or musician or whatever your potential is?

(not suggesting the potential is there, but it's sad that it sometimes is)

You want kids to go to jail because they can't cope with their AD/HD? Wow, what an idealist you are. Let them self-medicate with heroin. Wow, thank god idealists like all of us exist. Evil doctors trying to drug children!

Soon, they'll suggest kids might not always want to not kill themselves!

Next thing you know, kids might take drugs that stop them from killing themselves, and they'll live a few years longer.

Evil evil doctors!!!!! Making their $50,000 after $400,000 of malpractice insurance coverage! It's all a money game so they can afford their luxury Hyundai!

guys, take a valium and be lucky if you can live without the meds, and stop judging about parents who want their kids to not live in the hell i lived in 'cause I was "lazy" (if "lazy" means being 6 years old and fretting with anxiety over why you can't do work like you want to be "good")

Meds suck. No one wants Meds. It has side effects. AD/HD sucks more.

Anyone who whines about either sucks more than either.

It sickens me you equate pot to amphetamines. Amphetamines have a therapeutic use in this context; unless you want to claim kids are widely using pot for their back pain, this is an absurd and perverse comment to make.

wtf? Picasso? Picasso did not create great paintings because he was depressed. Actually, depression limits ANYONE's creative potential; this is well-established.

If anything, Picasso's talent as an artist was actually diminished for being depressed. Imagine how great of an artist he could have become otherwise-- given how great he was despite his depression.

Seriously, depression makes you stupid and limits your creativity. Some happen to be so creative, they have a lot to lose and they still come out with great art. But that doesn't mean they met their potential, obviously.

And no, THERE ARE NO FRIGGIN BENEFITS TO DEPRESSION. AD/HD, yes, if you bother to medicate yourself at least while in school, and if you can avoid it later in life, more power to you. But depression? No.

ive got ADD and it's a real disorder. I haven't been brainwashed, im not a psycho, i don't through chairs around, my parents brought me up well, my brother was a strait A student and he wasnt diagnosed with it. When i'm on them i get relieved of distractions and i can do what i need to do. I irritate people and cause problems when i'm not on them, but i can control myself, there not about controling u, it just puts things into focus.
 
yer i got add too not adhd they are separate disorders i have never been hyperactive but i still have huge problems with concentration even tho i stopped taking ritalin when one of my junkie mates took my whole supply in one night i never realised its potential for abuse (i thought it was jus dexies u can abuse which make me pass out)
