So for the last year and a half I have had severe cystic acne on my head and now folliculitis. I have been seeing a Dermatologist for more than a year now and this guy guards his drugs more tightly than a pain specialist guards opioids from a heroin addict. Partly it is federal policy...I had to go through the "I promise" program and go through tons of paperwork to get accutane....and constantly swear and sign documents promising I would not get pregnant....and I am a guy...yeah, not making this up.
Then monthly bloodwork and often the doc would screw up my paperwork so some months I had to make multiple trips to the lab. It was just crazy...and expensive. The Accutane did not work and it was like pulling teeth just to get an anti fungal, and then more tele visits (and he charged a fortune for a 5 minute phone visits). I have lost about 40% of my hair and trying to get on Dapsone....which he promised me 3 weeks ago and then refused to fill the script until I came in to see him. He had bloodwork and the scientific literature says you take Dapsone for a week and then do more bloodwork. He was supposed to put me on last week, and then do bloodwork when I see him one week later (next week) but his staff refused. My bloodwork has always been perfect, BTW.
I realize now that his strategy has been to maximize the money he makes off me, but just thought I would share how doctors refusal to give needed medicine to patients has spread far beyond just opioids and Benzos.
