More 10th-Graders Are Smoking Marijuana Than Cigarettes

id have to say that this is good news, i would much rather have teens smoking weed (something they can stop at any moment in their life) rather than cigs, something that they may NEVER quit and kills them

I am a 12th grader in high school and have been smoking marijuana for 3 years now.
Cigarettes fucking suck, but I'm addicted.

10th grade is the first year I ever smoked pot, probably at the begining. After seeing some of my friends with blood shot eyes everyday I wanted to do it.

Then we took painkillers and smoked, then we moved onto coke, then we discovered mushrooms and oxycontin. E was pretty much the last thing to come but once it did it stayed with everyone except me.

Pot was not a gateway drug. It was just somthing to smoke and get really high on if you've never done it before. Now when it comes to me getting high these days, I need to combine alot of powerful drugs lol.

Cigs suck unless your on some good shit.

I only smoke when I'm drunk, and I only smoke weed occasionally. Marijuana for me, unlike most other people, blasts me off into a full-blown trip full of auditory and visual hallucinations.. so I don't like to do it too much.

awesome article!!!

hmm interesting, there are more kids doing a non-addictive illegal drug than kids doing an addictive legal one. okay now we're going to pretend those stats aren't real and keep putting pot smokers in jail.

Despite the good news, I don't see mj decriminalization in the next 20 years. But I certainly would be pleasantly surprised if I am wrong!

marijuana is hardly "non-addictive".

This doesn't really surprise me. I smoked weed before i ever smoked a cigarette, a lot of people i know did actually.

Guys, the only good news here is that cigarette use has gone down in 10th graders.

That more 10th graders now smoke pot over cigarettes is actually a bad thing, anti-prohibition efforts want to reduce teen drug use, not increase it.

If it were legal it would be just like cigarettes, where you have to be 18 (or 19) to buy it and teens are strongly discouraged from trying. That would be a good thing.

It's funny that half the drug war is about reducing demand because clearly the demand is only being reduced for the drug that is already legal.

When I'm older I'd prefer my children to steer clear of all drugs and alcohol until they're older, but if they should start smoking I'd prefer it was marijuana anyday over cigarettes!

This is good news IMO. Cigarettes are very addictive, both physically and psychologically. They also have hundreds of harmful chemicals and most of all, they don't do squat to you. Now pot, is pretty much not addicting which makes it the best drug in the world. I know, I know..it is a little psychologically addicting but thats just mentally in your head. I can go days without smoking and be fine. As for physically addicting, I would say no..however once someone quits smoking pot, it takes a couple days to sleep well again which I would say is physical. Marijuana has no chemicals and it should pretty much be legalized. At least these highschoolers know whats good and whats not. Marijuana is probably used more than alcohol too, at least it was when I was in highschool at my school. Marijuana is better for you than alcohol and plus you never hear of a pothead beating his wife. ;)

As someone who still attends high school, its pretty amazing the ratio of marijuana users to cigarettes users i see.

I only know of 2 of my friends that smoke cigarettes, but over 20 smoke marijuana...
