Modafinil: What happened? (Unpredictability)

Hey everyone. So i've tried Modafinil (provigil) three times now. The first time was at a music event, in combination with adderal, alcohol, and MDMA later in the night. Don't know why I took it that night, just one of those "what the hell why not" things. I had a great night, btw, but of course i don't attribute that to the Modafinil.

The second time was while driving 700 miles, to stay awake. It helped me stay awake for sure, without all the euphoria of amps and jitteriness of caffeine. It did the job. I had fun making friends with the girls at the In-n-out on the way, haha. I'm usually pretty social, but perhaps it had a bit of pro-sociability effect. No negative side effects, save for maybe a slight headache, which i attribute to not drinking enough water.

And then today…. I wasn't tired or anything, but I wanted to experiment with its effects on my school work. So I wake up, ate some turkey bacon, greek yogurt, and granola with almond milk, eating 200mg of modafinil after my first few bites of granola. I didn't "feel" it the first two times, but this time, after my second class while in a study room, I started to feel ampy and anxious. At first my hands were just slightly shaky, which was not big deal, but it got progressively worse as time went on. I eventually just got very quiet and awkward feeling, and i had to excuse myself from my classmates. I could tell they were wondering what was going on with me. So I decide to handle some other bus. around campus, and I feel weird talking to people and just kind of down. Also all day my stomach has been feeling really messed up: gas, diarrhea, etc.

So yea, is Modafinil always this unpredictable? It was fine on the drive, but this time it really made me feel bad and kind of anti-social. To be honest it kind of fucked up my day. What gives?? Does is effect anyone else as unpredictably? Perhaps taking when I wasn't even tired was the wrong thing to do…I still feel kind of bad.

Hmmm... This is the tricky thing with stimulants, one time you can have a wonderful experience, the next it can be life threatening and scary even at the same or lower doses.

Okay let's look deeper here.

Are these the same tabs you've taken in the past? (Brand name etc.)
Had you had a good nights rest the night before?
Did you drink any caffeinated beverages?
Are you stressed out about something at the moment?

Same ones. Provigil brand. I have a strip of them.

I actually got a great nights sleep. Which is why I wanted to try it out. I figured it helps a sleepy mind stay awake, then maybe it makes an awake mind process information faster (or something silly like that)

No caffeinated beverages today.

No stress right now. I mean, i always have a lot on my plate, but I'm not the stressful type. But i was actually feeling quite cheery before it Modafinil hit me. I had plans to ask a girl i like out today, but yea decided against that today haha.

i should note that yesterday, i took 200mg of 5-HTP as well.

Well that is certainly odd. Well for sure all I can really say to that is your body wasn't prepared for it/rejected it as it didn't want or need it. If they are the genuine item (not the cheap ones from India) I'm in a stump.

Stimulants are known to have strange effects at different times regardless of dose etc. 200mg is also quite a hefty dose- and if you weren't tired or fried then actually I could imagine it being a bit ruthless on you, as you don't have a stimulant tolerance, and the body doesn't need it.

I think maybe if you want a try at it again, quarter that dose. 50mg should do you fine. If that's not being helpful jump to 100mg, but no further.

But to be honest with you- if you don't need it, don't bother with it. It's not really worth it in the end of the day if you can function and perform well without it.

From what you're describing it sounds as if you experienced an uncomfortable rise in noradrenaline which is what caused all of the problems you're describing a.k.a. The fight or flight reflex, your body went into fight mode for the entire day.
