Hi all,

I'm suffering terrible depression, and hate side effects of SSRIs.

I use dexedrine for ADD issues. I'd like to try Moclobemide as an antidepressant. It's a reversible MAOI (obviously irreversible versions are very contraindicated.)

I'd appreciate any experiences with this, or any educated opinions on the combination's safety. I've read a few reports of them being used together. My doctor is away for three weeks, and I have some moclobemide in store.

Thanks so much.

why is this in NSPD? drug combination questions like this belong in BDD.

either way... amphetamine plus MAOIs is a big no-no. you'll become hypertensive and at the worst have a stroke/heart attack, and at best you'll feel like absolute shit. (unless you're talking about taking crazy low doses like 1mg of amphetamine).

Look I understand you have add and are now depressed. This depression is most likely seasonal due to the summer hiatus. However what must be recognized is it is also due to chronic amphetamine usage without any breaks, just break from amphetamine for a day or maybe even a week and your manic depressive feelings will cease.
Having done this trial few times I can understand you are searching for more effects to compile onto the lost aura of Adderall focus, however this is not truly the case. The combination results in extreme hyperfocus and zombie thinking, bad idea.

Additionally the dosing schedule was wacked out as : 1. a major tolerance boost is felt after 2. moclobemide is a long acting inhibitor of mitochondrial monoamine oxidases(maoi) so in order for to have efficacy for depressive condition you can't take it daily because it's incredibly difficult for a layman to handle this maoi with amph without a certain degree of knowledge, even then it's not a good idea.

Break from amphetamine and your depressive state should vanish, you don't need to be focused all of the time.

"only safe with a doctor's instruction" lol I can't imagine any medical doctor recommending that combination!

It's for severely treatment-resistant depression. Reports of it on the net aren't necessarily uncommon when it comes to that illness.

Wow, never heard of that one. I have a feeling, though, that that treatment is not widely accepted and/or is controversial within the medical community. If I were severely depressed, I think I'd opt for MDMA plus moclobemide instead, but doctors can't yet prescribe MDMA (and possibly never will).

For good reason I would say. Serotonergic pruning never helped anyone's depression.

Electroconvulsive therapy can't be too healthy, either, but they use ECT all the time for treatment resistant depression. Personally, I think one of the best treatments for depression is natural sunlight, but even that causes skin cancer. :(

MDMA+an MAOI is also an extremely dangerous, potentially lethal combination, its asking for a hypertensive crisis and serotonin syndrome.
