Missed the Vein!

ha! nice link boltek.
i spose it depends on what you were injecting. The lump will be sore for a few days but it will eventually go away. What were you injecting may i ask?
I've had lumps where i've missed the vein before and goddamn its painful sometimes but it goes away, i'm not sure wether it has any permanemt effects though.

I should hope you missed the artery, because had you hit it, well, lets just be glad you didn't...
As for missed veins - hey, it happens to everyone at one point or another, especially when you're shaking so bad with withdrawal you can't hold the rig steady ... it may leave a bruise, but it will go away... put some neosporen on it and bang some more to forget about it!
GREAT pic btw!

I have to agree that most of the times you miss you'll get a sore bump that will just heal with time, on the other hand sometimes a miss turns up into an abcess , a sort of huge "internal zit" that needs to be treated with oral antibiotic. I've had a couple of abcesses and always declined the doctors offer to incise it, I just let it ripe(while taking antibiotic) and pop, this leaves minimal scar, while if you let them incise it will leave a much bigger scar; go ask some old junkie that had to resort to IM because he/she "run out" of veins to show you their abcess scars and you'll know what I'm talking about.

PhreeX, you may wanna tell the dude why he shouldn't inject into his artery. As you can see, that's exactly what he was trying to do...

PhreeX, you beat me to it dammit! Yeah, definately keep on missing those arteries...cause if you do hit one, realize that you could bleed PROFUSELY. Arteries are not = to veins. They are different. Avoid arteries, look for nice juicy veins.

Don't inject too fast into smaller wrist veins...

This is a REALLY good point. I almost did that once and my vein, though it was fine, wasn't super happy about it. Although I guess this is why I should shoot into bigger veins, huh? Or maybe load smaller rigs...

I think he was saying "artery" when he ment "vein" .... if you hit an artery you WILL KNOW THIS as the syringe will fill with blood, hell, the force might be so great you can even feel it pushing the plunger back - there would also be a little more pain then usual just from the injection...
Why don't you hit arterys? Simple, they carry the oxygen-rich blood to all parts of the body, so, if you break an artery there is a good chance you could have problems with internal bleading from that artery... there is more, but thats the basics...

I have in the past hit an artery by mistake. I was trying to hit in the wrist to no avail so when I saw blood in the rig I went for it.I tought that arteries were deeper than that and I was so dopesick that I didn't bother to double check, plus the blood didn't fill the rig prepotently like I had heard it would happen if you hit an artery.
The result was that my hand swell up like aballoon and stayed like that for sometime., it was painful .... don't try it at home.
