Harm Reduction missed a shot in my foot

hot compress, my friend. that is all they will do for you in the ER anyway besides give antibiotics. if you know someone with acne see if they have any topical eryrithromycn (sp) or clindamycin. even oral tetracycline.

hot compress though is the best.

Dear bluntedskier,

Thanks for the information about the law. Good to know. One consequence to consider however is being 'red flagged' at the facility your being seen at. If you ever had to go there in the future it could effect the care you receive-meaning that if in 5 years your no longer using IV drugs and have a legit and painful injury and are taken to that facility they may think twice before giving you pain medication. I'm not trying to be paranoid, just cautious and trying to prevent as much harm as I can.

That's good insight you gave though and I hope it helps some people who are scared to be able to tell the truth so they receive the best care they can. Thanks again.

Seriously?

There are many, many reasons that people IV drugs.
First off, the bioavailability of any drug injected intravenously is 100%.
Say you have a drug such as Morphine where the oral bioavailability is ~25%. If you take 100mgs orally, only 25mgs is getting absorbed. If you were to shoot Morphine, you get 100mgs of the drug (assuming you have vials and a perfect IV technique). That is reason enough for many people to IV it. In this, not only are you getting a better high and a rush from the drug.. you're also saving money as you are getting 4 times the amount than you did taking it orally. The rush is a major reason people decide to IV their drugs.
Don't get me wrong, IVing drugs can be very unsafe and massively addictive.. as in the OPs case where he missed his shot. People have lost limbs from missing shots or shooting into arteries.. but this isn't a huge problem for those with a good technique that work in a sterile environment. In order to make IVing safer there are many precautions that should be taken (such as sterilization, micron filtering, using new rigs every time you IV, etc.). That is one of the reasons we have websites like Bluelight around.. to promote harm reduction. People aren't going to stop shooting because there are others out there saying 'oh, don't do it, it's bad for you' or because of programs like D.A.R.E. If you are educated on the subject, IVing can be very safe. There is a reason that hospitals use the ROA, you know. ;)

I gotta completely agree with BaybeX on this one bluntedskier......not only do I agree with everything in her post right here^^^....but also....
Needles + chemicals + shoot into your bloodstream = no. There is NOTHING that is possibly good from IVing anything.

...really?....have you not thought about all the doctors that use needles to inject "chemicals into your bloodstream"? your blowing IV drug use a little bit out of proportion. I agree that it can be a very dangerous and addictive way of doing things(taking drugs for example), but it can also be the MOST effective way of accomplishing something and sometimes the ONLY way too save someones life. There are many many many drugs that are administered intravenously that save peoples lives every day. For example... pretty much EVERY SINGLE moderate/severe surgery ever performed anymore by any doctor involves intavenous drug use. Of course it is more sterile and done by a proffessional who knows exactly what he/she is doing, but it definitely doesnt mean..."needles+chemicals=shoot into your bloodstream=no". Im sry but that is just ignorance.
We live in a world FULL of people. And do you know what people are for the most part?....idiots.....ignorant idiots that make stupid decision after stupid decision. And when one of the billions of people that inhabits this planet decides to start taking drugs IV, yes, it can be very dangerous, but that is why Bluelight is here in the first place....harm reduction. You CANNOT stop all these people from choosing to do what they are going to do so the next best thing is to EDUCATE them on how to be safe, knowledgeable, and atleast have some idea of what they are doing. This can benefit the lives of millions of people, so I think you need to drop your attitude about IV drug use because no matter how much you complain about it....its still gonna be an issue, and issues need to be dealt with....and one of the best ways to deal with people who take drugs in dangerous ways, is to inform them on how to properly inject a drug, and how to recognize signs of overdose, etc....
I think you should take your ignorant views elsewhere because this site is dedicated to harm reduction, which means helping people, and what you are saying is not helping us achieve that goal in any way.
I say all of this with the most respect....im trying to get a very important point across to you.

Almost anywhere in the US they won't call cops if you have no drugs/paraphernalia on you. I second the hot compresses, they work wonders. I missed a shot in my foot and it looked like yours did, antibiotics and a hot compress did the trick. Also if fever is up over 100 go right back in...for under 100 I just use Tylenol and it works fine (mom's a nurse lol). I won't shoot in my feet ever again, fuck that. Glad you did the right thing and got seen by a doctor and hope you're back to 100% in no time. :D

This is really no hate, but WHY WOULD YOU EVER IV ANYTHING? Just the thought of injecting drugs into my veins makes me want to puke..... and I am no straight edge kid.... it's just like common sense... you don't even need to learn about it in school, or have your parents teach you.... Needles + chemicals + shoot into your bloodstream = no. There is NOTHING that is possibly good from IVing anything. Correct me if I am wrong, but no one ever just 'tries it once' then never IVs anything ever again. I'm not trying to be anti-drug at all, I'm genuinely curious what goes through peoples' minds when they consider the option?

GO TO A DOCTOR OR HOSPITAL, make sure you are OK, and like vio said, be truthful to the healthcare providers. Then reevaluate your life.

Maybe if you didn't have such a simple one track mind and not so ignorant and uneducated about many things you would be a help instead of a useless poster.

Alright already I think everyone has got it that bluntedskier is misinformed, get over it and back on topic.

Geez everyone on this forum just cant wait for someone to say something wrong so they can blast them, get over it people, I understand the point of trying to get HR through to people but its getting lost in the personal attacks.

Whenever something like that happens u need to see a doctor for sure. You really should try not to IV in your foot. You foot has a lot of bacteria on it. If you feel you must, make sure you clean your foot really well before hand, and make sure you don't miss. Try running your foot under warm water for a while so the veins come out good. (just tellin you this crap for future reference, so somethin like this doesn't happen again) If you really can't use your arm anymore, use your hand or something before you go to using your feet.Because of all the bacteria on your feet its not a safe place to IV. I know how it is sometimes though, i used to have to shoot in my foot for a while because i couldn't get a vein anywhere else.

I told them I got bit by a bug and it got infected. Don't know if they believed it, but they didn't question it, just gave me anti biotics and sent me on my way.

The same exact thing that happened to you happened to a friend of mine, and he told the doctor the same exact thing lol

I'm feeling a little better, my foot still hurts pretty bad to stand on though. Hopefully it will be better in a few days. I took some morphine for the pain and that helped a little bit. I plan on taking about 4 oz of promethazine codiene, but I have quite the tolerance and I don't know if this will do anything for me. Thanks for the concern guys, and I will keep u posted on what happens.
